98 2wd helper springs??

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here it goes.



Looking to get my 98 setup to haul the race truck. Its a 98 qcsb 2wd. lowered 4 inches in the rear, by raising the spring hangers. everything else is untouched. Waht do i need to make this thing tow well? Just a air bag set up lie the air ride, ride rite stuff?

i was looking around and found the ride rite kit, but dont like having to air them up each time i use them. wonder if they have a compressor add on for them

At the bottom there is a compressor kit.

firestone wants about 30-40 more for the bags and about 30 more for the compressor set up. guess for now ill go compressorless

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make your own compressor set up. I will call a friend of mine that does air bag systems and see what he has laying around.

I've got an airlift wireless air system on mine that works nice.

I use the ride rite system. Love 'em. It is not a big deal to put some air in them. We have installed several with the air compressor, guages and front and rear controls, but I personally would never spend that much more for the convenience.

I'm worried about how low a trailer will make it squat. It's already 4 inches lower than a stock 2wd. Don't imagine it will handle well with it that low in the back

how heavy is everything? if you didnt pull your overload springs than it shouldnt squat at all. before you spend money hook everything up and test it. the main thing i would worry about is frame to axle clearance. you may have a problem with the off the shelf "air" overload springs since you lowered the truck. i know i couldnt run them when lowered my rear.

Get an adjustable ball mount that you can raise (high dollar bastards), or flip a heavy duty ball mount over to level the trailer if it will still be lowered some. The load should be fine on your chassis assuming all the springs are in place. Tongue weight is where you need to be careful being lowered.

Air bags are great for heavy towing. It is not that big of a deal airing air bags manually but an auto leveler is so much easier. Just jump in and start the truck and your level with or without load. A PSI guage alone helps but unless you load the truck in the exact same position on the trailer every time the readings will not accurately reflect if you are level.
