Some of us are biased towards diesel only.. HP is HP though it's equally impressive when someone takes a step forward with AND/OR without nitrous.. I have nitrous in the garage, but I do prefer diesel only.. It will possibly be on my truck in the future. =)

I should keep my mouth shut since I'm making approximately no hp.. haha.. Joe, I can't wait to install your parts on my truck..

No one busted a grand, the guy (sorry forgot his name) from Shreveport in the 05' grey truck did 945 on spray. No the air is not good here at 90+ degrees.

Wait till you guys see shots of the trailer pull.....too cool!

Brady and I were talking last night late about the numbers. I'll have to ask Richard today about the numbers. If you were to add a 1.17 correction factor to Farnams' 945 number then that might make sence.

I'm not doing the challange....that's too funny, just drove up here as I'm on leave this whole month. Had to get out of town and see some country.

Transfer case on the Orange Ford but there are parts trucks around.

Is the dyno at the DP challenge running corrected numbers or uncorrected numbers. If the grey truck dynoed 945hp with the 1.17 correction factor then it would have made around 780hp uncorrected. If he made 945hp uncorrected and the correction factor was 1.17 then he would be around 1100hp,if you use correction factors, regardless its good numbers and its pretty cool to just get attend that event.

Timbeaux

a 1.17 CF is absolutely ridiculous for turbocharged, nitrous snorting trucks. :homo:

RCCX
06-27-2007, 09:53 AM
The truck that made 945hp is a #2 only rig I believe, but regardless correction factors are based on natural aspiration and in my opinion do not apply to turbocharged vehicles,I was just curious to know which way the dyno was being ran.

Have any of you ever play the whisper game when you were little, In school. That one person would start and tell some the phrase or what ever it was, and everone would just keep passin it along, and by the end of the row of people the phrase would be something completley different then what it started out to be.

The grey truck is on a small shot. He told me he doesn't have the A5K wastegated so he didn't want to spray alot.

I thought he said 970ish uncorrected. 130+mph on the dyno.

I would've sprayed the hell out of it...

On the 1/4 mile he backed out of it and ran 11.90ish under 100mph. I'll try getting exact numbers.

I need clarification:
1.What constitutes a small shot?

2.What constitutes a large shot?

IMO,if someone says a small shot,I think to my self around 50-100hp,if someone says they have a large shot Im thinking in the 200 range, what is everyone elses thoughts?

Dont take this as I am bashing the numbers,I make big power with the bottle,I think its kinda stupid when someone makes a really great number,as in this case, then people chime in with "it coulda been more he only had a 250 shot".Why cant good numbers be good numbers, theres always an excuse why they were not higher.Congrats greyrig, thats some bada$$ horsepower.

inline6power
06-27-2007, 03:36 PM
congrats on the numbers. but as far as a record, mabey on fuel only but he is not the highest HP CR truck up to date. as far as i no, Richard Brown from Browns Diesel has the highest hp CR truck to date. he pegged the dyno in vegas at 1200, granted it was with spray but only one close that i have heard of is RCCX but he did 11XX . any ways, great numbers expecially if its fuel only.

Luken
06-27-2007, 03:37 PM
I'd agree a small shot is 50-100hp.

I'm not making excuses about anything. Hell he won the dyno event. I'm sure if he ran more than one stage then he would've had a bigger number. I guess that's a stupid comment...??

RCCX
06-27-2007, 03:52 PM
I think "stupid" might have been alittle harsh.I dont know the truck or the owner so if I speak out of place, someone please correct me.I have read the truck made 9xx hp on the spray, then I read he made 7xx hp on #2 only. Then I hear it was a small shot,my math isnt as good as it used to be,but thats a 200+ hp shot(thats a big shot in my book),so my point is how is that not spraying alot?To say that is a small increase is a little stupid.

I think it would have been better to just say the grey truck made 9xx hp,but it always comes back to was it #2 or drugs. My comments about the shot size was not about using nitrous( I am a huge fan) but I think its strange to hear"so and so made 970hp on a small shot then the next post says he made 7xx hp on motor."This is my opinion and I am not trying to offend anyone here.

Luken
06-27-2007, 03:54 PM

Luken

I just read where you posted it would be 7xx if the 9xx run was corrected... But it wasn't. Corrected it was 1,100+.

It's not really that big of a deal. We all know it has power. It laid down a 11.41 run on fuel. That's more than 7xx. LMAO!

Inline6, Kieth (nastygirl) just did 1036 on fuel at Merchant's last weekend. For someone to throw out a rediculous statement like "new CR record" is foolish, unless you are the President of the CR Diesel Record Holder's Association that keeps track of all CR and diesel related performance and your organization is in charge of handing out records. To do it twice in a month is even more foolish.$.02

I need clarification:
1.What constitutes a small shot?

2.What constitutes a large shot?

I'm with RC on this one!

People really need to get away from the gasser terminolgy when talking about nitrous on diesels!:bang

There really is no way to put a generic quantity of "large" vs. "small" "shot" of nitrous with diesels. The amount used is very vehicle and setup specific. Nitrous' effect is largely dependent on the amount of over-fueling and when it occurs. For instance, a single .070 jet on one truck could only net 60 hp, yet the same jet on another truck could net 150 hp! Same amount of nitrous, just different type of over-fueling ;) Now, take the same two trucks and raise the jets to .125. The first truck may now net 100 hp, but the second truck may actually LOSE hp because at .070 it was optimized!!

Basically, unless you have dyno tested various size and stages of jets on a particular truck, there is no way you can say "that was with a small shot" simply by going by a jet size or one vs two stages

Hey guys I am still here in Utah and I will be glad to give you guys an update on the diesel power challenge.
James had a great run on the 1/4 mile running 11.92 and took second in that event spraying the truck down the track. He also placed first on the dyno giving the truck two shots of nitrous.
Overall he took third place in the diesel power challenge and his truck performed very well till today that he blew a head gasket during the sled pull.

James had a great run on the 1/4 mile running 11.92 and took second in that event spraying the truck down the track. He also placed first on the dyno giving the truck two shots of nitrous.
Overall he took third place in the diesel power challenge and his truck performed very well till today that he blew a head gasket during the sled pull.

well how did you do?

Here are my results
I took third on the 1/4 mile running a 12.02 on diesel no spray
I took second on the dyno making 862 on spray and that is uncorrected but made the most on diesel and that was 661 uncorrected.
I pulled the sled 323.71 ft and was stopped by the flagger
I pulled the trailer with the bobcat and took forth on that event.
Overall I placed second place.

I went to the track about a month ago.I didnt do so well,it was the first time with my new set up,I wanted to make a easy first pass to get a feel for everything on motor.I ran 11.42@122 mph.I couldnt get a second pass,I was told to leave the track until I had a rollbar.I have a rollbar in the truck now and I trying to find some new gears so I wont be on the rev limiter at the 1000' mark again stuck at 122 mph.

you could only imagine how soon i hit the limiter with 4.10's in my truck......... and still ran a 11.3.:poke:

i think that after you hit the limiter it accually tries to slow you down?
im guessing that would explain my good 1/8mph and very bad 1/4 mph?

Boy this thread got out of control!

I did confirm the other morning that the dyno numbers were UNCORRECTED!

Yes Furman's truck has allot more in it form the smoke he still had and yes he is not shooting that much N2O, and he installed it last minute. I wouldn't want to shoot allot more either without a gate on that turbo, I did get to see one scattered that day.........really bad, ask Richard he got hit by flying pieces.

There were people that had issues and either worked through them or have a good idea how to fix it.

Even Tomac said he needed to dyno more as that was his weak area.....if you call 750 uncorrected weak.............lots of fun and I was glad to be there.

i think he meant

fix·ate (fĭk'sāt')
1. To make fixed, stable, or stationary.
2. To focus one's eyes or attention on: fixate a faint object.
3. To command the attention of exclusively or repeatedly; preoccupy obsessively: "TV and newspapers were fixated on high-technology as the solution to almost everything" (Jay Walljasper).

Greyrig used a single stage of nitrous. Small pill. A 62 or 68. I cant recall exactly which.

His 945 was uncorrected. He only ran the 11.92 cuz he let out early. He heard a funnny noise and got nervous. That expalins his low MPH ( only 100 ) at the end of the run.

Hey Adam, it seemed someone noticed. On PDI's truck I couldn't tell you. he posted the numbers on the mag article but the onyl reason I know it is one is because I saw the harmonic balancer. The other is Reb Brown's truck. Adam told me about it back in March and we have been disccuing it over that past few months on what is going to happen. Adam would have a better idea on Rebs than I but that is what I know. From the details you cannot change the harmonic bablancers (info form reb) so I figured if we saw that on PDI's then we would know.

Hey Tim to answer your question of why i did not spray.
I had problems with tunes all morning and when i finally got a tune to work with the altitude my Nitrous system failed. I ran the 1/4 mile and the 1/8 10k trailer on fuel.
I got third on the 1/4 and fourth on the trailer pull.
Tomac ran a 11.87 and greyrig ran a 11.93 and i ran a 12.02
I finally got to spray on the dyno and that was because i borrowed someones jumper cable and hotwired the selinoid and hit it manually.
On day two for the sled pull i had a friend of mine get me a spring cable with a button for the sled pull.
I pulled the sled 323 ft and got stopped by the flagger. Tomac pulled the sled 317 ft and the red ford pulled it 305.
After that we went down to a showdown and I forgot to turn off my overdrive and pulled the sled 155ft.
So at the showdown i got third but by that time i had second place overall and was happy with that.

Well what can you tell us? Who's Injectors and electronics? Big single or twins? Do the 6.7's use the same cp3 from the 5.9 or is the stocker bigger and capable of supporting that much? Have they ditched the DPF? Details guys, details. :bang

You can punch and stroke a 5.9 if you choose.

I don't know about the CP3, but the rail is bigger!

HUGE single, duel CP3s, and 5.9 injectors and some 5.9 electronics and yes, we have ditched the DPF

So is the 5.9 injector a drop in replacement or does it require some machine work? What about the wire harness, is a direct replacement or somthing custom? If you dont want to say I understand...

The 6.7 has much in common with a 5.9

Actually the 6.7L CP3 pump puts out less volume and more pressure. We have been working with them already. The 5.9L pump is better for making power. It's capability of making more pressure is nice but without the volume it will not get there. Thanks

Yea, but the 6.7 rails are larger than the 5.9s which is going to help it. The injectors will fit in from what Adam and Reb have said. Its just a matter of time as it is with everything.

6.7 injectors will not fit a 5.9 but 5.9 will fit 6.7 head. 6.7 inj are totally different internally with dif electronics. 6.7 rails, tubes, lines are much bigger but i never ran them. The 5.9 can not be turned into 6.7 easy at all. 6.7 block and head are diferent. steam hoses and different water and oiling holes on the 6.7. 6.7 is a good motor but the rod angles are all screwed up and they are a recipe for disaster. If you are going to use the 6.7 crank and pistons then you will need to have billet rods made and the 6.7 and 5.9 rods are the same.

Sorry for the off-topic rant but god i wish the VP44 guys could understand this. There are guys who complain about their vp44 dying "but I had good pressure" because they run a pusher, with the stock lift pump and are all happy about seeing 26psi...thru the little stock lines. I run a FASS with 1/2" line and have never seen more than 13psi or less than 10psi WOT and in the 3 years I have been running the dog chit out of my truck, I haven't had a VP44 die from fuel issues yet, only fried electronics from a Drag Comp with bad wire tap.

Pressure without volume is damn near worthless.

Same goes with a 12V, decent pressure but lots of volume.

we put a FASS on my buddies truck at about 25k... gave up the ghost at just under 60k. Same setup as you have, but he drives it like a grandma. just has some Don M 4's and a drag comp.. it took a crap just before he tore it all down though so it wasn't that big of a deal.

That's funny. I've found that the pistons in the 6.7s CP3 to be capable of about 10% more flow (volumetric) plus it's built for higher pressure than the older pumps.
Regardless of what others CLAIM they got out of the older pumps, Were getting almost 4,000 more psi in the twin set up and filling the rails much better with the single than the older pump could ever do.
