On my 17 horse 332 mower, there is a little metal cap that pops off towards the back of the pump. I jacked the screw a few turns and bumped the pump over to give her some timing.

He is correct about turnign the pump up, or, those lighted signs, by the road, that say expect delays blah blah blah. They use the same yanmar engine in there taht is on your tractor. The lighted signs are turbo charged, they just turn a generator. Maybe at your local yard you can find one that has been hit, and scavenge the turbo intake and exhaust, if you have enough room in your lawnmower for a turbo.

I will try to do some pump adjustments first but need to find out which plug hides what adjustment.Turbo is in mind also.:rockwoot:

Is this the same Yanmar 31HP that is in my JD4300. The same engine is rated at 35hp in a JD4400. At least that is what my local pump guru says.

Yes it is a 997.The 35hp ones that I have looked at were all biger cubic inch engines. This thing never smokes no matter what so I know there has to be a little more there!Ought to just swap a 4bt in it & be done!:ft: :hehe:

most of the blah blah signs in the last few years are solar powered but s ome of the old ones like he said are turbocharged yanmars. best place to find one is a place like roadsafe or similiar company. Just drive down the road and when you see an orange construction sign look on the back those are the places that have them. You could also try the manufacturer which is Winco in Denver, CO

I wish I would have recorded what I did when the adjustments were done on the pump. It helped a fair amount. They had two different screws.
