The allison is non overdrive and non lockup.... you will have trouble breaking it. The getrag is a joke, and the 47rh can be extremely strong if you build it.

What are you doing with the truck?

Let me know if you decide to go with the 47rh. I am pulling mine out of my truck soon to sell. It is a 4x4 trans with a single disc billet converter. it does need to be rebuilt. it slips pretty bad

The 643 locks up in 4rd and 4th gear..but the 545 doesn't ..not sure where your getting this info that the 545 can lock up its torque converter? I just double checked my Allison service manual for 540, 543, and 545 and they definately doesn't have a lock up torque converter. 4 speed with a simple torque converter. When my friends that race them rebuild them they have the torque converter cut open and have the stall speed lowered as tight as possible. D. Courtney ( Dodge D50 with 353 or 453 detriot) even was experimenting with a external transbrake. I know Doug Sortiro runs one in his 6v53 ford pickup racer, and I believe the Cat's Meow with the twin turbo 3208 ford runs one also. If it was a lock up trans they would be using that function. The is based on a turbo 400 with a bunch of changes.. I have Doug Doring's, old Ct Diesel Drag truck and plan on finishing it some day ..its been sitting here for almost 10 year ..lol
Thanks,
Deo

hey if you have a manual for the 545 could you possibly tell me what direction the gear selection lever on the side off the tranny has to be in so that it is in reverse so i can figure out how to run the shift cable
