Has anyone widened stock dodge steel wheels before? Preferably 2nd gen like the one pictured:

(not my pic/wheel)

To be honest I have not been able to look at this particular wheel design to see if it can effectively be split (I've loaned mine out as a set of rollers for a buggy build at the moment) - but I would like to split the rears to about 10-11" wide by only adding additional backspacing. The reason why: it would be cool to have the stock-wheel look and still be able to run some decent 16" slicks that could possibly be tucked due to the high possible backspacing.

Thoughts/advice on widening wheels in general?

I've done a few sets of 3rd Gen aluminium wheels, For the front of the puller and the back of the 2wd tow truck, 12" wide.

Have any issues with balancing those tow truck wheels?

I balanced the wheels before I put tires on them on one of them needed a 1/2 OZ. The rest were fine

I'd like to widen the wheels on my truck. I had in mind to use two wheels to make one. Seems like it would be a little easier than dealing with a band, and only one weld bead when finished.

I thought about doing that but the extra work was worth it to me to save 2 wheels.

Are you referring to the 20-series wheel.... 15x6 to 16x12 - nice range, with any BS amount!
