Thank You

It's one of our favorites. 1 speed forward, i speed reverse...made to directly replace a horse by pulling the same implements. You can remove the rear wheel and seat and hitch up an implement with a seat and ride right along without all the horse **** in your face:D

That is the second farm tractor model Allis built....back when they were the wrong colors

Sure thing. I'll grab some tomorrow.

We had it restored in 2001 for the last Allis show in Plain City.

The man that has done all our restorations was an Ac dealer in the 50's and 60's, and is one of the most particular guys I have ever met. These things are ready to work like they were when they came off the factory floor....ie, new bearings everywhere, the best gears and housings he can find from parts tractors, etc.

Well, at least all of them except the 6-12. There are only ~75 left, so parts had to be made if they couldn't be found. It is all "right" except the carb as far as we know....still looking for the correct one. It will fire on the second pull of the crank though;)

We are the second owner of the HD11, and it has never left the county. Sold new right in the little town we are in, and when the customer of ours that owned it passed, we talked the son into letting us buy it....the catch is he gets to come use it whenever he likes, and he is maintaining it. They don't trust us to keep it in the shape they always kept it. It is amazingly tight for a 1961 model that has worked almost every day of it's life.

And in case you didn't catch it in the other thread, here is (part) our 1919 Aultman & Taylor 30-60. We own it together with another friend that actually found the tractor in the mid '80's, and at the time he couldn't swing the purchase on his own....so he called Dad and asked if he would like to be a partner with him.

Dan was killed suddenly last year in a grain truck rollover, but his son Shawn keep the tractor in running shape, and we haul it to whatever shows he would like to take it to. It's been an awesome deal for both families for a long time now....I remember driving this beast at 6 or 8 years old.

They also offered a kit to hook two of them back to back to make a 4wd version...called a Duplex. You'd connect one to each end of the connecting "pipe" and put one in Foward gear, and the other in Reverse gear....which is why they only had one gear each direction.

None of them are known to exist today...and the regular ones are too darn rare to build one. I guess depending on what book you read, there are anywhere from 18-80 left today.

That is cool stuff Chris! I love old tractors and farm equipment. My dad had the first rubber tired tractor in the Peace Country (where I am from) his cousins wife bought it and donated it to the local museum. My Grandpa had a steam tractor in the very early 1900's with a partner and ran it in southern Saskatchewan till about 1915 ish.

Chris, Those are some great photos! Thanks for posting them. Where is that cotton picker at? Did the little D17 picker tractor have a picker on it when you all got it? I like the little tug. Whats the story on the 7000 why did it get bought but not get used? The silage cutter hooked to the D21 is kind of a funny looking one with the sheet metal like it is at the top of the snouts. Thanks again for posting.

Those Jansens happen to be my relation. If you ever want a private tour of some of their collection just get in touch with me. At P-ville I can introduce you to them if you would like. Bill owns the 110, as well as a few other steam engines. I know they typically make a few trips worth of tractors down to P-ville every year, not to mention the convoy we have every year going down on Wednesday morning. I have not even seen 1/3 of their collection, and am in awe every time I see something they have done.

Chris

Can not wait to see this collection in person. I have been instructed by my family to take pictures of everything, FYI. I will post them all to here once I get them taken and uploaded.

I will shoot video and pictures at P-ville this year for everyone to enjoy, keep an eye out at the end of August for a new thread.

We sold some of ours a few years ago, lack of time to take care of them. We had most of them at the show last summer, but that's about the only place most of them have been for about 10 years. We try to get some out and actually use them on occasion.

We can't "maintain" much of it either, but we try to get them all out once a year and get running what we can, and at least turn them over if they aren't stuck. At least pump a little oil around everything!

Funny that you go to the UP to get it. Of course there isn't much row croppin up there probably explains the low hours.

Rumor is that the original owner harvested 10 acres of oats a year, and the second owner harvested 15 acres of oats a year. We already have 8 acres of speltz to cut with it for a friend of ours.

And it gives us a reason to go hang out a day at my uncle's place on the Manistique Lakes for a day.

Starting at the family farm....some of the old tractors we don't get to play with too much. Most of these were grandpa's that dad bought from his siblings when Grandpa passed.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-o4Rwte7imHI/UBB3-Zbe3zI/AAAAAAAAASk/IQhkIc26qPo/s640/DSC03776.JPG

Al old Case that Dad and Grandpa used to farm with, and our HD16 Ag crawler. We brought it home from California....Dad was out there selling some stuff, and of course the truck was there anyway, so he can;t just let it come home empty!! Was a good old runner until it blew the headgasket. It actually out worked a newer Cat 65C track tractor with the same tool. 844 CID, no turbo, 1600RPM, and just loafs right along!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7dB2QmDyfKc/UBB4AOLhvKI/AAAAAAAAASk/NLQzFQCBIZ8/s640/DSC03777.JPG

You can kinda see our old Allis 440 tractor, and the tail of our Gleaner A II combine.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-phjr8yqr4UQ/UBB3-ec_S9I/AAAAAAAAASk/CqzjXDynKVE/s640/DSC03778.JPG

One of my favorites, an Oliver 99 with the 4 cylinder engine. Later one's had a 6 cylinder, this one is just odd....and pulls good for a 4 banger:D

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NlKBmcCbx_I/UBB4BnwEEAI/AAAAAAAAASk/z3ehmlu7oCQ/s640/DSC03781.JPG

The one Derek was talking about drooling over....Allis Chalmers 4W-305.
My Uncle sold it new at his store, and we acquired it from the 3rd or 4th owner. Can't remember, but it doesn't matter...it came to us with a valve stuck in a piston, a lobe wiped off the pump cam, 2 split injector tips, a junk final drive, a junk hydraulic pump, 1 gear missing from the tranny, and pieces of the barn that fell down on it still hanging off it. She was rough. Thanks to some hard work from our employees, and one heck of a nice paint job from a good customer and friend, she looks gorgeous today!! they took the cab, tires, axles, everything off to paint it....I think they'll get to do another one at some point.

Sorry for the single pic...it's in a barn with our farm equipment, and I can't get to the other side. She still works for a living working ground spring and fall, and usually gets loaned out to a customer or two or grain cart use during the fall!

Some old crosscut saw Dad's Grandpa would use. Whatever engine was on it would burn a quart of fuel an hour....so he would put a quart of fuel in it, start it on a big log, and go get hammered drunk with his brothers. Dad says he learned to dig it out of the dirt at a young age since his Grandpa liked to drink more than he liked to cut wood!

Gleaner L that the customer that painted the 4W-305 bought brand new. They once had 9 of them at one time, and this was one of the few they bought new. They guaranteed it to have 15,000 hours, probably 20,000....but we've taken it to the field to help out a couple guys over the last couple years, and it hasn't missed a lick. Allis Chalmers 190 "Beachmaster"

This one cleaned the beaches in Michigan City, Indiana at one time. It went along an the "Beach Sanitizer" attachment picked up bucket fulls of sand, and dropped them on a mesh belt. The sand fell through, and the trash, rocks, a other garbage traveled on up and fell in the bucket on the back.

Thank you for taking the time to share. I enjoy looking at old equipment. My favorite is equipment from the 60's and newer. That seems like when every one started farming on a larger scale. I personally miss the days of seeing 4840's and 8 row equipment.

I didn't expect to see a green header under the shed. I expected a red or silver one lol. I also see an 1130. My grandfather farmed with one of those, 2 Ford 8000's, a Massey combine, and a Ben Pearson 2 row picker. He retired from row crops in the late 70's.

Personally, I like the mid 60's - mid 70's stuff. Got bigger, more diesels, and fun to go play with and use on the farm. The old 1130 is a nice one too...Dad got lucky on that one!

Oh, and part of that reason is you can't see the oil puddles that thing leaves in the grass....all lubrication is done by just running oil out over anything that moves, and most things that don't.

The drive teeth actually have needle bearing rollers (i think, been a while), that run oil all over the place and try to cut down on the wear. On top of that, we can't figure out why this one looks so good....the guy must have loved his horses more than the tractor.

As for the bonus question, is that what's sitting next to the dootz?

Bunch of nice stuff you got there. Some things that caught my eye, having both a 1750 and 1755 Cockshutt wheatland, kind of strange seeing a 4-115 without a reverser. I got all wound up there thinking you had a 1750 PFA, then from another pic realized it was a 1800B gas. Still not common though.

Lots of interesting stuff there. I have to agree, everything is too unique to stuff a B into. While I'd like to end up with that engine you have, you would have alot of fun stuffing it into a 1650 with a narrow front. Makes for a stupidly handy tractor to have around the dealership and quite a conversation piece. Mine was used for that for a very short time until I got carried away with making it go fast. Planning on detuning it this winter if I can make time to build a new tractor.

Good eye Brad.

The 4-115 is a bareback, not even hydraulics, with a (slipping) Over/Under....she's still a pulling SOB! The 1800 Gas is sharp...and the guy that owned it before us gave the auctioneer a pile of receipts totaling about $18,000...nuts, but she's nice now!

I do have a 1600 NF Gas though....although I like the old smooth running gasser too much to drop a 5.9 in there. That would be a good engine for that useless 1550 Utility Dad just thought he needed.

I guess I did miss a few, like the one at my house, and a couple in the neighbors barn. We have them stashed all over this end of the county.

Oh, and I missed that 2150 FWA we still can't figure out the oil pressure issue on::(

Is there anything unique about the fiat sitting kind of behind the porsce? I've got a 1355 high crop scattered about in pieces that I should get put back together some day. You need to find me a set of 14.9X34 tires for that. Yes, 14.9X34. WTF.

1550 utility gas or diesel? Straightshaft? Did he buy that because he was at the auction in Wooster and saw a less than nice one bring over 15K? I'm pretty sure there was some fishy chit going on at that auction. Knowing who sold it, and who bought it, and who the other bidder was that made it bring that much.......
Speaking of that auction, is that the 2255 that your dad bought from us?

Anyhow, 1550 rear ends are weak. You can tear one up at 6500lbs with a stock 3208. Ask me how I know. :hehe: Besides that, I'd use one that had the wet pto clutch so you have enough pto to run big balers and such.

Sometime stick your head under the left platform on the 4-115. Some of those were built in the mid 70's and had a casting boss sticking out where the hydraulic pump was on a 17/18/1955 ect. Obviously it was not machined there, but you could see where it could have been. I always found that interesting.

I kind of elimated them as a option because all of those that I've seen look very wrong on the back of a 1960's tractor. 1/2 tread or better, fair price, no brand preferance, just something that would look reasonably correct on the back of a 1355. I'm sure you know what I mean.

We got one in that needed either clutch or 3 speed work, dad was all wound up that tractors at that auction were gonna bring big money. I had to run your dad up so we didn't lose money. I didn't like that.

We adjusted the clutch, everything is fine. Your dad should have let you look it over better beforehand. We've even pulled the sled a few times and took it on a 50 mile round the county drive. Don't worry about running it up, no need to lose money on something like that!

I'll look in the tire pile for something that fits it.

BTW Brad, the 1550 is a Diesel with a straightshaft....it's been hooked to a tree spade since we've owned it. Dad just thought it was the right color green, and different enough he should own it.

Chris, yall's collection is one of the best I've seen. Please keep them coming!! I can see now why you had people drooling of the 4W-305. Your guys and the painter did a heck of a job on it! I love the HD-16 crawler and 440 4wd tractor. Your cotton picker looks bigger thatn the one I told you about down here. Maybe a little bit longer basket on it. I don't know how many models they had. Glad to see you have some of the "other green" in there. (Deere) LOL Do yall still use the TS-160 pan? It looks huge!! What fuel model is the D19 high crop? I know a guy down here that has all 3 fuel types of D19's in the High crop version restored. Great collection again!!! If i'm ever in Ohio I'd like to see them in person if you didn't mind also. Please keep posting pics!

Anytime. Just PM me or call the store and ask for me. 800-996-2937 (800-99MAYER)

The model on the older pickers is a 616 or 622 (single row or 2 row) They mounted on a D17 turned backwards. We'd like to find one.

The D19 is a Diesel. We have a propane D17 High Crop, and a D17 Diesel Thompson high crop as well. We have something of every high crop they offered I believe. From the UC's to the 8000 Series.

We just got the pan over the winter, but I'm sure we'll use it at some point. It would have been nice to have back in July '11 when we started excavation for my new shop.

I thought of this thread today as I fired up the JD 730LP Standard from storage because we were getting the farm tank filled today and its a nice convenient time to fill the tank on it as well. I had to tuck it away in the barn quickly because of the storms rolling in, but I'll get a pic of her in her work clothes when the weather moves out - she is still a dirty old girl - but still too nice to restore. Her baby sister is in pieces in the corner of the shop... I need to finish pulling her apart and get her restored... a JD 630LP Standard.

Ok I'll keep an eye for one of the pickers. I think I know 2 places to check just now thought about them. Weren't the high crops pretty rare or one of the fuel types rare in a high crop model?? What motor is in the scrapper?

Chris

Not that I want to argue with you about the first self propelled combine... but early and first production self propelled combines interested me several years ago and I did a fair amount of looking for some early examples. Off the top of my head the first patent was awarded to a man named Berry in California for a self propelled harvester where he fed a steam boiler with the waste straw for fuel - this was in the late 1880s early 1980s... he ended up building 5 or 6 of these machines before the patents and his work was purchased by Holt - who in 1912 introduced the first self propelled production combine - then again in 1919, Holt produced the first self propelled combine using all steel construction. The Gleaner model that you have is the first front cut self propelled combine and it produced through the mid 1920s - I don't recall the exact years - but I do recall that only about 500 of them were built in total.

I wish I could find my box of pictures that has gotten misplaced after dad passed away and I was reorganizing things.... I have tons of hard copy photos of randomly cool stuff at events as well as some copies of some very unique and old original stuff - like a 20 horse team pulling a combine with a 112' head harvesting grain in the late 1800s... that kind of stuff is just uber cool to me - the lets go get it done spirit that allowed so many of those pioneers to build something from nothing and they had to make it all up as they went because there was nothing invented yet that they could even look at to try to improve upon.

Wow - the random crap that I seem to remember.... but yet I can't seem to remember things that I should. LOL

Chris I won't even begin to act like I know much about tractors of any kind. The only time I drove them was bush-hogging dads field or breaking stuff trying to help the local farmer when I was younger. What I do know is I have always loved checking these things out. Some of these I have seen at local shows I think, like the one above. I am originally from Warren county there in Ohio. Next time I come home and have time I may have to stop by and check these things out in person. I have a buddy who would literally pay you for 20 mins in the corner of your barn and a box of tissues. LOL I know it has been said but I will say it again, Thank you very much for posting these pictures.

Chris, is that V12 and actual Allis built motor or is it another brand with their name on it? Was that motor ever used on anything else Allis had maybe in the construction side?

Chris

Signature600

Allis designed and built. They built a V8 and 2 models of the V12. To date, I believe 3 or 4 of the model 65000 V12's have surfaced, 900hp with aftercoolers, none of the 800hp V12's, or 600hp V8's have been found.

They were genset only, but the V8 was tested in the HD41 dozer. 1000 hours and she was done at 650hp. Something about not being able to keep them balanced.

I got to see one run a couple weeks ago at the Gathering of the Orange on Laporte, IN...so bad@ss. Got to fire ours up now.

I also need to get pictures of our 4W-220 taken now. She's all painted up to match her big brother now.

It's called in Intrac. Very few were ever sold on this side of the big pond, as it was more a European design. Every manufacturer over there had some sort of design like that to double as a truck/tool carrier. Kinda neat, but slow as hell. 3pt hitch and PTO on both ends.

Chris

SmokinCAT
11-03-2014, 02:23 PM
Yeah, I would too, not too many still around from the truck app, I think a low rpm water flow issue caused quite a few of them an untimely death in the trucks.

That and the early ones had some rod bearing issues at 450hp. They were way ahead of their time though. When CAT, Cummins, and Detroit were at 350hp with their normal engine lineup, AC was at 450hp.

There's a 72 W900 down your way with a V12 non turbo Deutz in it too....would love to score that one as well.

Very cool thread!

We have about 180 pices with engines...tractors, combines, etc. Then there is a large lot of machinery and implements to go along with those. Just something we've always done, Grandpa collected and farmed with them, and so does Dad. My brother and I enjoy it to.

We also have a few that Grandpa sold new, or he bought so long ago we just won't get rid of them. What we try to collect is the more odd or rare tractors that had lower production numbers, or with a goofy set of options or something like that.

That thing would be just flat out cool to see in person, I think the number put in trucks is well under 500.

Yeah, we called him a few months after he sold it looking for an old truck to haul antiques with, and he had one of those "oh $hit" moments. No big deal, just one of those deals.

Going to some of these antique tractor pulls I see more of these AC's around than I ever did as a kid. AC came out with some really innovative ideas, and were usually well ahead of their time. Thank you for preserving the past.

Chris, Can you tell me about what my tractor is worth?

International 404 around 62'-63', New right side tires, left need to be replaced, never been painted, but paint still on fair shape worth? Mechanically sound starts on 2nd turn over every time. I think it has a weak valve seal because it smokes on start up but then clears up?

Just a Ball park idea?

Find me a mechanics special open station 7030 or 7050 would ya Chris?? lol I still kick myself for letting Dean sell the one he had 7-8 years ago. We have one of those 4 post rops cabs laying outback too. Thinking about putting it on the 7030 bareback with long axles we have. Should make a unique tractor.

Your Dad looks right at home there!!! Looks like the collection is getting quite a few other colors in it!! You guys need a 1066!! I love seeing all the D-17's, first tractor I every drove and prob spent more time on that tractor then any other (She was our Mule on the farm with an after market loader). I would have loved to know how many hour that pour old gas engine had one it. I was told Mr Sullivan planted with it and would work it so hard all day the the Muffler would be glowing at night when he would finish up.

I think so. I've only seen one in person.... after it was burned to the ground. Had not run in quite a few years. Kid thought it was a good idea to burn some weeds with 5 gallons of gas. Fortunately the ground slope and wind direction moved the vapors away from the kid... but towards the tractor that was burried chest deep in dry weeds and grass.

You can't be picky, you buy them when you find them.

Tell me about it lol. Neighbor had what had to have been a hydro 100. Used it all the time with hay and cattle work. They sold it a couple years ago, don't think they wanted much for it. I'll just keep the 1206, only red tractor I want unless I find a cheap 1456.

Yeah I looked them up later last night. They made quite a few. I can see why there were not that popular where I grew up. Hydro ate a lot of power and ground speed from what I can see. The series numbers/options are confusing. Still be fun to have one. Wife might even be able to drive it... maybe. She sure as heck can't drive the Oliver that is just like starting and driving a car as far as I'm concerned.

Allis 190 project we had for 15 years before we finally got time to work on it.
AC 190XT Gas, Narrow front, snap coupler drawbar (basically, AC proprietary hitch) with 15.5-38 rear tires and duals. Pretty much a 190 with all the goofiest options you can find. We're looking for an original belt pulley to add to it to finish it off.

1919 Aultman Taylor 30-60 getting backed into it's new home by AC 8070 Serial #1. We've owned the Aultman since 1992 with another family, but due to the Father's death in a truck accident in 2009, and his son's suicide in April, we now own the whole tractor. His wife wanted it out of her barn, so we have it at home now.

I don't know if it has grown, but it's different. Might have grown 20 or 30 since you were here.

In 2009 we sold 60 tractors, and by 2011 he had added about 80 more already.

We have problems.

Thy took a lot of theirs, and we dropped off 9 of ours at their place on our way home from the Gathering...they took those in for us.

We'll be out Sunday to go to the show for a bit to help them get their stuff home, and bring everything of ours home.

Nothing, just the name of the founder. They were bought by Oliver later, and the Cockshutt brand was the same tractors as Oliver sold through Canadian dealers mostly.

You guys wouldn't be interested in an Oliver 66 diesel, restored, would you. A guy I work with has it for sale, think he's asking around $6500, give or take. I can get you pics and more details if you are.

Can't say that we would. We're more into rarer option tractors, or low production units.

Ok, just thought it might have been rare enough, first one I've seen. Drove through your lot today, is the little old crawler with the covered tracks an orchard model? Never seen one like that before.

Yeah, Allis M Orchard crawler. Seat hangs out the back instead of up on top.

66 Diesels are rarer, but just not our thing. If it was a high crop or something like that, maybe. We have odd collecting habits.

Looked really cool! That's fine on the Oliver, pretty sure you guys lean orange anyway! I'm partial to red and blue myself, but can appreciate all colors, just not real crazy bout them other green ones.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Chris for taking time out of his day yesterday to show my family around the collection, it really is pretty incredible to see. We really enjoyed it, and learned quite a bit! Thanks again.

Can't help but think you guys need one like this! Said it's an air cooled V-12 duetz engine, looks like fun!

Thought this might be of interest to you, maybe.

On a side note, what do you think of the potential collectability of a 1967ish Ford 4000, row crop, narrow front, diesel, standard 8 spd trans? One for sale locally, been trying to talk dad into it since it's virtually identical to our 4600, and I think it'd be worth something in the 10-20 yrs or so.

Thanks.

I guess if I was looking for something like that, it would be the right one. Narrow front diesel is probably not a common set of options on a 4000.

Since you seem to be the resident expert, how much would you pay for a Allis Chalmers G? Fair shape, no implements. I want a belly mower though :(

Signature600

What would I pay?? About $50...I hate those little bastards.

What are they worth, I've seen them from about $1500 for clunkers, to about $6K for painted up ones.

The engines are a PITA to keep running unless you're using it all the time. The valves love to stick. Most will be in the $2K-3K range.

My wife's aunt and uncle posted this for sale. Personally don't think it's worth near that much, but didn't know if you or someone you know was looking for one.

It's actually at a little farm repair shop, although all I can think is he works dirt cheap, because it sure seems that tractors are there for a very long time before leaving. This is supposed to be a customer's tractor.

D5006 Deutz...I've never seen one in that color, but if it's not factory they did a good job. The frame is the wrong color too I believe. That's actually a nice tractor, usually those things are beat to hell and back.

I should probably update this thread, had a few changes. Planting season here, but once I get a minute I'll post some new stuff.
