I will try to make this as short and simple as possible guy's I just need yall's input!!! I currently own the truck listed below in my signature and of coarse I bought it lifted, :bang I am wanting to take the lift off and lower it down 2 inches with a set of 420's and start building it for straight race. My question is would it be worth it to sell my LLY as it sits right now and invest in getting a newer LBZ? My truck only has 95,000 miles on it and has been well taking care of as well as running great. I have read that the LBZ is the most wanted Duramax but the only differences I have found are a slightly stronger bottom end, 6 speed Allison, and a bigger tune from the factory. My reason for wanting to sell mine instead of just lowering it is the value of it would be a lot higher lifted then lowered. Plus buying a completely stock LBZ I would be able to start over again and go straight down. Any input will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Its all in what you want, i had a lbz and loved it but you have a decent start on your truck and no how you treat it . If it was me i would just keep what you have and keep going with it

keep in mind that the lbz pistons are weak

Only plus to an lbz is the 6 spd....bottom end wiil be built on any duramax once you start pushing the 6-700 hp mark. Only other thing, and i think its vehicle specific is lly's can be finnicky to tune.... at least mine was ..... since you already have the truck, I'd say keep it since you know whats been done to it.

my opinion of weak is how they crack more easily than lb7/lly

Thanks for the replies guy's. My main goals with either my current LLY or a stock LBZ are to lower it, build the tranny, bigger injectors, turbo, and shooting for a 650 and under daily driver. Was just trying to figure out if it was worth it to build an LBZ over an LLY cause really it looks like the 50hp gain from stock is from just more tuning and having a 6 speed Allison. But hell who is gonna get outta 4th barly into 5th anyways racing?!?

So how many lb7/lly's run in the 6.90's in the 8th on a stock motor? They will all break for 650 I wouldn't be worried about a lbz.

at 650hp ur getting into bending the rods territory no matter which model u have, and on a lbz the pistons could crack at 500hp or could live till u bend rods. wont know till it happens.

stash that cash your going to need an engine build sooner than you think no matter what engine it is. At 650 hp no stock bottom end , or lbz piston is going to last . imho

You'd be surprised...if it's 1/8 mile, then yes. In the quarter, I was spinning 4500 through the traps in 4th gear on the stock trans. You will be using 5th if you make enough power to run 100+ mph.

Well I ended up throwing my truck up on Craigslist and a couple other sales sites for a stupid price and had about 30 offers on it in less than a week. Ended up having a guy come down form Wilmington, NC on Sunday and I let her go with cash in his hand. So now it is on to a search for my next project! Thanks for yall's replies!!!
