The 806 would be way more tractor than I need, but it's in damn good shape. New paint, all the steel is strait, good tires, no leaks, etc...
The 560 is about the size tractor I was originally looking for, I'd call the condition "easily restore-able."
The 806 just caught my eye, as it's sittin on the same lot.
I need to maintain a lot of pasture, that's about it...
I don't know jack about either model though. Not that excited about the 560 being a 5 forward 1 reverse trans... But I'm sure it'll be sufficient for what I'll be using it for.
They're both within my budget, just don't know which would be a better tractor.

Both are diesel too, by the way.

Ive got a 560 diesel wide front, its a great tractor. A medium sized batwing would look great behind it.
The 806 would be good too, put a bucket on that and you can do anything.
Ive got an 826 that we have a backhoe attachment on. I use my 826 for everything.

Id definitely go with the 806when it comes to brush hogging something with a lil more a$$ is needed. Our9 foot labors are884 pretty good at times. And its 72 horse

I'd go with the 806. I have an 826 and I use it for everything. 560's are not bad, but the 806 is a better and stronger tractor IMO

The only thing I'm overly concerned about with the 806 is size honestly. I have some trails through the tree's that I'd like to keep cut out too.
I thought the 560 might be better at that.

The 806 is big but not much bigger than a 506. Whats the biggest implement you plan to slap on this thing?

Well, I just bought the place this summer... So next spring summer is when I see how the pasture does on it's own, just being cut and weeds sprayed.
If I need to break it up and spread seed I might pull a disk through it I guess, no plow though.

Turbo the 560 and toss some weight on it.

It should, make sure you've got a good clutch.

Ih offered a turbo kit for these way back when. It was for high altitude usage. It uses the manifold off of a TD9-282 crawler.

On the 806? All the black lettering is worn away on both sideplates, doesn't look like they did a thing with those when they repainted it. Or maybe they thought they looked better "natural."
And like I said, I don't know these tractors, so what am I not seeing on the grill?

Your not seeing the grill because its not there.

They used that to strip weight off the 806?
Put a stock grill back on the 806 and run it. Those firestones are way better than what is on the 560.

Lol... How about that...
Although, that one you just posted has different fenders, and no weight rack. Did the grill ever change on these?

I don't believe so, and imo it looks damn sexy with square fenders.

I was told the 560 is basically an M rear end with a lot more power in front of it. Shouldn't it be a torque amplifier also?

I don't know about that. I have then tires on a 4020 and they dig good and wear good. I like them.

The 806 is a very good tractor. The backend is very strong, will handle way more power than what the engine puts out.. the 5 is a little closer to its limit IMO

They are available with a TA, but the one down the road from me here is single range 5 speed.

This is exactly right, I have had both rear ends apart. The 560 is past its limits when performing heavy tillage, but if its had the updates then the bushhog work should be fine (some tillage will not hurt the tractor either you just don't want to plow 200 acres every year). The 560 diesels are also known to be very hard to start.
The 806 is probably one of the best IH's built, the engine is great and the rearend will take a beating. However the cost of rebuilding the engine is very expensive if that is a concern. If you will be hauling the tractor any you will have to remember the 806 is alot heavier tractor also, but that could also be an advantage depending on how your terrain is
Parts are also very avaliable for both of these tractors, and both should work good in what you are describing.

Buy the 806 my dad put 10,000 hours on one with a turbo kit pushing 130hp without any problems. They are known to be a awsome tractor. Grandpa even had it up to 150hp for a while until dad turned it down because of overheating

Well, I think y'all have convinced me.
I was doin some reading elsewhere and I guess all the hot farm pullers like the 806 rear end too. Not that I'll be doin any of that, but I'm after the tractor that's least likely to give me problems.

Both tractors are good tractors for what you are looking for they both have 12gpm hydro and 540/1000 PTO. what it comes down to is how big of bush hog and what the size of other things you might be useing are i like the 806 they are easier to find parts for but if you cant use the HP and load the tractor properly might want to go with the 560.

I wouldn't sell my 806 for $4000 and that looks cleaner than mine lol. Although I do have the original bucket that came with mine. We just leave the TA alone, 13,000 hours and still going strong!

Well, two new batteries and leads and it starts and runs like a top.
The trans however, has some quirks.
T/A doesn't work 3 times outa 5. And you have to hunt a bit for high-low-neutral. Reverse goes right in. 1-4 seem fine. Thing moves right out in hi-4.
Clutch is good, pulled a big old cedar tree I fell across the pasture and the tractor spins and digs with no slip outa the clutch, and it has good power.
Right brake leaks a little, and the steering leaks a little.
Other than that, think I'm alright.
Anybody know what it'll set me back to have the trans rebuilt?

Have you checked all the linkages? They are pretty good for getting sloppy and then you have a hard time finding low-high.
chvyrkr
12-25-2012, 01:30 AM
I'd be lookin through the linkage, but when you let the clutch out without hittin high-low dead on the trans binds, and the thing won't move an inch 'til you hammer the shifter out of where it stuck.
That normal with a sloppy shifter?
