SO who has the quickest 1/4 mile time for a first gen? And whoever you are, I'm comin' for ya LOL

what are you the E.P.A?

brockw08
10-18-2007, 07:07 PM
I know a certain yellow 1st gen that's got a work bed on it... Don't know any times, but I believe horsepower to be in the 600's.

KBennett

The quickest I have seen is 13.8 with a 5-speed Getrag.

:hehe: :st:

Who's that guy with the 'Lil Red Express truck? He's in the 12's I think. Not a rotary pump so you guys can argue over whether that counts or not.

JQmile
10-19-2007, 12:59 AM
oops yeah I meant to include VE pump....I knew of one high 12 second ride, that the fastest out there?

That yellow truck Brock is is talking about has a ve pump on it I do beleive. It is one bad Mo fo.

brockw08
10-20-2007, 01:49 PM
He's running a 5 speed. I think an auto would shave off some serious time.

We'll soon see, I have some $$$ I am about to throw at a 1st gen!

Goal is high 12s for $3K in mods including the trans, and yes I am cheating *nx*

I bet if Brian's engine was in the little cummins express he would be in the 11s with a ve pumped truck.

JQmile
11-02-2007, 01:06 AM
It takes about a 10:1 power to weight ratio (at the wheels) to run in the 11s, so with only 5000# worth of weight, I'd only need about 350rwhp on fuel plus another 150rwhp worth of spray, and there ya go--500rwhp...11s....seems too easy, so I have this feeling that it will actually be really hard LOL

Cummins Express
11-04-2007, 10:47 PM
with the lil red set for the 12.00 class it makes 430hp and comes in at 4440 lbs you should be really close the hard thing is going to be your 60foots with a stock rear leave setup

JQmile
11-04-2007, 11:38 PM
:banned: stock leaf springs...

mini-tub and leaf spring suspension, but far from stock....thanks for the info btw, looks like I was close on the 10:1 thing!

ready to see a VE truck go fast? :rockwoot:

Bringing this one back to the top. It seems that there are several people building 1st gen drag trucks right now, so how about some updates?

oops yeah I meant to include VE pump....I knew of one high 12 second ride, that the fastest out there?

Who's been in the 12's? Quickest I have heard of is low 13's.

JQmile
01-15-2008, 10:05 PM
I think J&H had one back i the day that ran 12s...I'm about a month away from getting my trans rebuilt and hitting the *nx*. I'm hoping for 400rwhp cause all it has is injectors in it still. With a 5000# weight with driver it should be close to 12s.

KTA and Stomp have both made over 600rwhp (no nitrous) with VE's, I think their motor in a lightened 1st gen (4500#) with a 47RH should be easy 11s if not 10s.

my regular cab long bed in street trim weighs 53XX with me in it and 1/8 of a tank, with some work and a little time i could easily have it under 5K with me in it........i easily had almost 200 pounds of crap in it that day besides me.....and i weigh about 330 pounds guys.....

Wow I had the exact same idear. In fact, I've already talked to some fab shops about building a mini combining box off the back of the front cover (like a transfer case) with two pumps side by side....I guess you know what they say about smart minds....:hehe:

Well I blew the flexplate apart on mine on a 30psi launch.
Also I decided to try running a single turbo to see how that works and I'm liking it alot so far.
I'm running the II 66/16 at 45psi and its keeping things cool.

But, before the flexplate let go I got a 13.3 on my Gtech (tracks are closed around here) on a 25psi launch. So its coming along!

Posi? How much tire pressure did he run? Also the ones I got were sitting in the back of a warehouse for like a year and a half, so they might need a few good burnouts and some VHT.

The guys at J&H were telling me about your truck, sounds like a good project to revive!

I believe he ran about 15psi. He was able to launch at 15 pounds of boost without spinning them, but this was also with the stock converter. His tires were 32 x 13.5, and with the 4200 spring it would do well over 100mph. Oh ya, it has a lincoln locker.

Well I was slower by 3 tenths at the 60 ft mark, and only 1 tenth behind by the 1/8th mile, so I would have been catchin ya on your 15.20 pass....Course I'll never know for sure until I hit the 1/4. I won't really be happy till I see 12s though.

Heres what you looking for Adam. Only thing, the 4200 spring is longer than stock and 3200 and must be modified to work like it should. I will PM you my number if you have any questions.

Will stock VE valve springs rev to 4200 without floating, Or is an upgrade needed? Nobody lists valve springs for the first gen motor (Or so I was told by Erik, I havent checked myself)

I dont know what it weighs, It is a stock 91 4X4, 265/75-16 tires, 3 speed non lock up, 3.0? gears, the VE has never been off the truck. Its a clean truck.

You wont be out of gear with a 4200 spring. My brothers old 2wd went 99mph in the 1/4 with a 32" tall tire. We had it up to about 110 on the freeway and it was still pulling.

Keep us updated on when you get that thing out to the track.

RockJeep--I'm worried about turning too many RPM with the 14mm, don't wanna break the truck just yet. Hey stock 600, that truck sounds like a monster, sounds like you're already a little ahead of me! As for 1/8th mile times, I talked to Adam and he said the 13.0 truck ran an 8.23. Some other guy on here I think ran a 8.36 or something, those are the fastest I know of. I ran a 9.6 but I have about 50 more hp and nitrous now, so I am hoping for at least mid 8s in the 1/8th.

Tom broke on his first pass on saturday, but Brad Ponci had him fixed and going that night. He stripped the splines on his forward planetary gear.

I got a call from Tom this morning and he dynoed 578 hp and 1200 tq, still with a 12mm pump. Big congrats too Tom :Cheer:

That's nearly 100 HP more than what anybody else has done with a 12mm pump. Have any details on that one?

That would be raising the heck out of the bar.

Not saying it isn't possible or I doubt it, just that it is a number very deserving of elaboration.

We installed some 4krpm springs and a tweaked a 4200 gov spring to work so that it would fuel longer for the drags (3spd, non OD) Stock HG and bolts (for now...) small WSB (57mm) trick custom intercooler with water/meth and a custom nitrous system. He ran a couple of 13.0's before the springs and was running out of fuel. We fixed it for Ponci's and he broke the tranny on the first pass (BRAD IS THE MAN and got him going that night!) Brad's crew tweaked the timing on Sunday and got the big number of of it.

stomp worked on the pump for abt 3 hrs sunday at brad's before the dyno run. when i took it for a test it was like a different truck. ran good before but now-better . thanks jeremy, brad, joe. 578,1200 lifted abt 3200 no fueling issues anymore. race wt is 5650# going to try to get to sac on the 19th of oct. any guesses?

I'll guess mid 12s....as far as power goes, nitrous goes a long way...that truck is spraying a lot of it, and the other 450rwhp or so numbers have been on fuel, that's why this truck is making big power like it is ;) Looks like barring unforseen difficulties, you guys will be the first in the 12s. Got a steel planet in it now?

tcs 91
09-12-2008, 11:58 PM
yeah, brad had a good planetary on hand put in some other parts. should be better now. still has a single flexplate though. he didn't have a double on hand. that could be a trouble spot. can't make sac this wknd will try for the 19th at the truck races.

in answer to begle's question, really there's nothing outrageous on the truck everything just works well. have a good water/air, snow, some nitrous, air dog 100 put a b@m megashifter in after my last run i think that's the best 200 i spent was lookin forward to runnin at samoa but didn't happen. dyno showed the fueling problems i was having have gone. looking forward to sac. ran good there in july. nitrous works just a well on these 1st gens as anything newer. you just have to have fuel. not a black cloud of smoke behind you.
