So it's been about a year or so since I've been on here. Kept in touch with most of you guys through Facebook, diesel events, and social media nonsense. I've been dabbling in gas stuff for a bit and still am. Kind of miss this place so I'm back. Been through a couple more trucks but finally have one that will stick with me til I croak. This was my grandpas truck, so the sentimental value is worth more than the truck will ever be worth.

It's a bone stock 24 valve down to the factory air box. 125k miles and on the original auto trans, engine, and all. It's a completely rust free rig. My grandfather bought it new back in 99 so I'm the second owner. I have done a ton of work to it in the short time I've had it. That includes paint, wheels, tires, and soon to be sport front end conversion. I have a few plans as far as performance is concerned but I probably won't get crazy with this one.

Here's a few pics of the before and after. It's still a work in progress.

I can't remember how to embed pictures in my post so if someone could help I'd appreciate it.

That is a good looking truck. That looks better than 90% of the trucks I see with way more money thrown at.

Thank you! Cost efficient was the plan from the beginning. I have about 1800 in my wheel and tire setup and 750 in my sport bumper and grille, which will be on the truck next week. Sometimes keeping it simple is better than going all out. Plus, I dig the stock/papaw look.

Here's a couple pics of what the paint looks like up close. It's pearl black.

Well, ya know, the house and work keep me busy so unfortunately my CompD time went bye bye. Especially after I sold my common rail. I guess I just needed a break for a while. :badidea:

Thanks sir. As far as plans for the motor, I've tossed around a bunch of ideas. I'd like to keep it as reliable as possible. For a while I was throwing around the idea of a ppump swap but I've since changed my mind. At the moment, I'm thinking I want to do a budget set of twins, along with supporting fueling mods, injectors, programmers, yada, yada, yada. Typical vp stuff. :blahblah1: I'd like to have a solid 500 horse truck when I'm done, which isn't a big goal I know. Firepunk will be going through this trans, as they did my previous second gen, as soon as I get rid of some bills.

Understandable did you paint the door jams and under the hood to match?

Yep. It's all paint matched, minus the inside of the bed. That's getting rhino lined.

A buddy of mine is a body guy, he did it in his garage in 2 weeks. Total cost of materials was around 500 bucks (black paint is cheap). This paint is actually pearl black, in the sun you can see purple and blue, it's sexy. He laid on 2 gallons of clear. The paint job isn't perfect, but you really have to look close to find the few imperfections. What really made it "pop" was getting it wet sanded and buffed, which is a pricey endeavor, but well worth it if you really want that glassy, mirrored finish.

Looking good. I definitely think wheels need to match the truck. I haven't like the 4th gen 17's on some trucks, but they look good on your single cab.

Agree this truck really pulls off a nice clean look. As I get older I tend to like trucks without all chrome molding and all that bs. Truck is for sure a head turner guy excellent layout.

I really appreciate that man. Thank you. That's exactly what I was going for with this truck. Clean and simple. The chrome grille was a last minute decision, and I honestly think it gives it a "different" look. It breaks up all of the black and adds a different perspective to the sport front end.

Agree I'm not bashing it at all. I'm doing a sport conversion and still on the fence about chrome or painted. Throw some 20% on the windows and call her a day. Truly in love with the truck man I have been trying for 3 years to make my 98 have a "clean" look and yet to pull it off. Some trucks just fall together and look perfect. Great job bud

Technically, it's reverse leveled. Pulled the 4 inch blocks out of the rear and replaced them with a 1 inch block. So basically a 3 inch drop in the rear.
