Thanks Kat for posting a pic of my twins, I just got home from my long trek to Idaho for a new bottom turbo, SoCal for tuning with TTS and some fun and scrapes at Fontana, Phoenix for a submarine reunion, Medford for a new CP pully and some racing with PaulP and Max Payne. Keith your setup is really something, I especially like the twin 5" exhaust. Do you know yet what is going on with the engine? Subman.

Very Nice Bobo... very nice indeed.

Thank you. It took me and my buddies a few days to do all the work. It turned out great. Had one small oil leak and Nathan helped me figure it out. That was the only problem I've had so far. Thing sounds like a 747 on takeoff. I can build 10 psi of boost by reving it up in the driveway....which is kinda cool. I want to run it at the track before the Twin CP3's go on, but the tracks have been running events and no T&T. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to go. If not, the other Twins are going on!:ylsuper: It is a handful on the street the way it sits right now.:evil

That was on a single CP3 with a lot of fine tuning. I don't expect to go that fast right out of the box, but I'll get to the track soon. I just got the darn things on.

What did you run with a single CP3?

Want to add up costs on trucks?

I'm running stock injectors, factory lly CP3, and ran many 11 sec. 1/4 mile runs at higher elevation. I surely don't recall you running any 11's on fuel.

The D-max's are improving fast, money doesn't always go the fastest.

I drive mine everyday(my only transportation), use for commerical plow contracts in the winter, and have full exhaust. These twins work well in both worlds.

Don't take what I said the wrong way IdahoRob. Bobo is always talking smack so I'm just returning the favor with a little ribbin' about his "show truck" looking bed.

The twins do have their advantages but for all out power I still think a big single will make the same or more power. You can produce more boost with twins but boost is just a measure of restriction, not power.

For me and others in MI, IN, KY that truck pull twins would severely limit our hooks since there aren't any classes that allow twins. The places that do allow twins also allow big singles and the big singles dominate. So far the fastest Duramaxes all have single chargers.

I ran 12.0X with a single, stock CP3 with PPE tuning and 11.5X with dual CP3's and EFI Live tuning by Kennedy. My truck is just as streetable as yours. BTW, I haven't spent as much as you would think.

Hey Mike, don't forget that we are running the redheaded step child LLY's too. They are known for being slow. Throw on a set of these worthless twins and you got yourself a real heap of crap. I'm hoping it will run 13's at least. I can only dream of going as fast as Mikey Tomac's professionally tuned LB7. You think KD will make me a tune so I can go fast?

Badger Truck Pullers allow twins here in WI!!!

Thanks,

I thought you were a big shot tuner bobo? So I'd have two states to pull in if I had twins, OH & WI. I could also pull with DHRA Super Street but that class is dominated by big singles and they are allowing unlimited drivelines next year (rockwells, profab, ect) .

IdahoRob
10-18-2006, 09:40 AM
The original bash was against twins and track times. I know squat about pulling.

The twins work well at the track and the street. With twin CP3's I think I could pick-up the .3 to run with you Michael, but it's not in the buget right now. It is fun being one of the fastest max's in the country, but I mostly run bracket events, so being the fastest isn't a top priority.

With more people running twins now, I guess I'll not take offense from comments unless directed towards me personally.

I'm off to the track for a five day national pro event.

Good luck at the Halloween Classic Rob!! I really wanted to go this year, but I have other racing conflicts.

I understand there will be some other diesels racing in the sportsman class as well, as a couple of you in the Pro class.

Go get them!!!

Yes and no. Will your Aurora make the same power as Bobo's? Yes it probably will. Will it make the same as Keith's set up? Not a chance in He!!. Keith's big turbo flows over 50% more than your Aurora.

Higher boost means your trying to shove more air into a given space over the same amount of time. It's not all that uncommon to be able to make close to the same boost with a single as twins if it isn't wastegated but making 50+psi with a single isn't where the hp is at. Your rotating a lot less weight with one turbo vs. two. The advantage to twins is really good street manners and low egt's yet the capabilities of high hp. As the every day hp levels go up that get's harder with a single. It's simple physics. As a rotating mass increases it's harder to turn with a fixed force. There are ways around that (like smaller housings and turbine wheels) but they all have consequences. There will come a time/hp/smoke when singles just wont cut if for anything less than a race/pulling truck due to drivability.

Idaho CTD, I don't consider the Aurora a "BIG" single. A turbo bigger than the Aurora can still be streetable if it's built and sized right. With an auto trans and the right converter a "BIG" turbo can be very streetable.

Yeah you have to remove rotating mass to get it too spool (damn physics again) along with using a tight housing. You can run a sloppy converter and it will make boost/power way up in the rpm band to make it seem like it drives good. Sure you can street it but it's no where near ideal and you have to work at not barking it. It's comical what people now call streetable compared to a year or two ago.
