Anybody have any positive or negatives on the 625+ studs

My builder wants to use 9/16" studs, but if the new age 625+ studs work that might be the route to go. He figures if he is drilling and tapping why not drill and tap in english?

Cost will probably be about the same, since the new age safe on labor.
I had heard of a few have had trouble with the 625+ stretching.

Feedback?

Don't seem like a lot in that box of 625 studs for a grand.....:bang, price could be better now....

9/16's studs in the block sure look more strong.......

Conspiracy theory here... I think that ARP switched the composition of studs after the first release. I ran the original set from ARP in a 24v and they were silver in color. That truck's still making 65-70lbs of boost 5 years later and the studs have been retorqued 4-5 times. The next round of studs that came out were black colored. These are the ARP studs that fail routinely in mild applications. We just finished (3 days ago) replacing two broken 24v studs in a truck that's only pushing 50psi. The studs were used once until the gasket blew and then broke on the next torque when the oringed head was installed. These aren't the only ARP's that I've replaced.

I think ARP is using a weaker material in order to push the 625 'new' product line... I mean, it's an extra $600 in their pocket, why not?

one way to solve worrying about ARP would be to go with A1 studs. They don't mass market, with diesel products anyway and are a precision bolt maker for some high end things...

Did you send any into arp?

Seems to me a while back heard some chatter about knock off's, needed to watch your supplier ect..... They came in a sealed arp box ect?

Sent them to Comp and never heard from ARP.

All have been the same light blue ARP box with identical marking.

I have an older set of ARP 12mm's and I have torqued them down to 130-135lb ft a dozen+ times with no problems. I just use a shat-load of engine assembly lube and torque in small steps.

I thought I heard that 9/16" studs removed too much material from the block? Why not 14mm's?

Are you sure you have heard that the 9/16 remove too much material and weaken the deck. I only know of one other guy running 9/16" studs in a cummins. The 9/16" are considerably cheaper than the 14mm, and just a touch larger also. I mean if your drilling and tapping does it make difference if you drill and tap 14mm or 9/16"

There is some money to be saved for the 9/16" but it then gives me an oldball application. If the 625 will hold the power, I could do that route, won't have to worry about reaming another head, could sell them if I decide to detune the truck etc.

run 9/16 studs in my 4bt and have not had problem. i ran 12mm studs before the 9/16 i could only get a half dozen passes before the head gasket would come out.

I have heard of a few people having problems with the block cracking after putting the bigger studs in. I would call up haisley or schied and get some A-1 H11 studs. Ill take the a1s any day over the arps

anyone have part #'s for the 9/16 studs? I take it we are talking ARP here. For a 12 valve by the way!

You will need to measure the individual studs, and order them by stud.

I vote to go with the 9/16ths. You are talking about taking an additional 0.011" out of the block over 14mm studs.

My first set of studs were A-1's. On my first full torque(122#'s) 3 studs twisted and broke. I took them out and put in ARP's. Ran them for 3 years and just recently switched to 625's when I had the head off for some valve work. I guess it's just luck of the draw.
