Tranny light flashes on stalk

New to Fords but not to diesels. Yesterday while creeping in downtown Atlanta traffic, I noticed a sluggish takeoff from stop. I also noticed the OD light flash on/off. I got home fine, took off again a couple of hours later and it did not happen.

Is the tranny heating up? I checked fluid and it is clean with no burnt smell and is a perfect level.

Any clues??

check it for codes first. The o/d light flashing is like the "check engine light" for the trans

you dont have a manual Converter lock up switch on it do you, if the converter stays locked-in at below computer set speed, that will cause the light to flash, or a converter malfuction ( staying locked in for some reason, which would also account for the sluggishness) will make it flash at you

A flashing OD light on those trucks usally mean a bad Speedo Sensor found in the read Diff housing..

rear diff sensor will usually turn on ABS light as well
