I am looking at upgrading the look of my hood. I have seen that some members have the keystone heat extractor hood. It looks pretty sharp. Any other aftermarket hoods out there, that you guys are sporting. Pic's? Pro/cons? opinions? Thanks.

Truck looks great. How's the fit and finish of the hood? Did it come painted to match your truck? Thanks.

You know I was wanting to do something to change mine aswell. I found one but it's a fiberglass hood but it looks like it's finished really nice underneath and all. The website is

Anyways it's one of my choices. I don't know a whole lot about fiberglass hoods but it looks tough.

Fx4ord...that's a plastic hood....yes, plastic. LOL
I used to have one...fit was damn near perfect and the body shop guy said it was the easiest to paint he'd ever done.

Fit and finish was good. Only had to adjust one of the hinges on the truck by the wiper cowl to line it up perfectly.

Required minor body and prep work prior to paint.....better than most other fiberglass hoods.

They come bare, my buddy owns a body shop, so they painted it for me.

Doug, one of our site sponsors sells them too. Good pricing.

i don't mean to change the topic but what do you guys think of these. I had one on my old f-150 and the fit and finish was top notch. I like them cuz they don't rise up quite as much and they are CHEAP!

IMO, I like the Cervini's on lowered trucks.

I've seen it on one lifted truck....almost don't notice it since the styling is so subtle and with it high up in the air it doesn't really stand out.

Rich, how much did that thing weigh ?? In comparison to the oem hood.

If I'd know it to be that much of a tank, I'd have done differently.:bang

The reason I ask, is the Heat Extractor I'm running weighs more than the factory steel. I'd still like to pull some pounds from the front end. Even though I like the looks of the h.e., if I found something lightweight, the heat ext. would find a new home on the tow rig.

I didn't weight it...but I could pick it up easily with one hand.
It was definetly lighter than stock.

I'm lookin at doin a different hood too, but am worried about fiberglass...... I love the Heat Extractor hood, but its only available in fiberglass, and I'm leaning towards the reflexxion cowl hood mainly b/c its a steel hood...... I'm worried fiberglass will twist and such under high heat.... am I wrong in thinking this?? also, is the Heat Extractor worth the money for the functionability or just for looks? thanks.

The Heat Extractor is functional.

I got it for looks though LOL

As for any issues with it being fiberglass......it's been on my truck since 2001 without any problems arising with it.

I bought a cervinis for my mustang its fit was perfect. had to do absolutely no prep work. botom sides are finished in a smooth gloss also. i dont think they have a functional ram air kit for the SD like i got for my mustang though. If the height of the scoops were taller adding a cowl style in the back that thing would be sweet.
