Im looking into buying a 2000 dodge. Auto trans 46,000miles. Is there anything i should look out for? Any reason i should stay away from it? Are the auto trans ok? I am not looking to build ridiculous power just looking for a good truck that i can use for towing.

Weak spot on these trucks is the VP44. Make sure the stock lift pump is supplying adequate fuel pressure to it (10 PSI minimum). Also make sure it does not have a #53 block as they can be problematic. Other problem is sloppy steering which can be fixed with a steering stabilizer and a 3rd gen track bar kit. Check for codes by doing the key trick (on off on off on and any codes will appear in the odometer window). You definitely do not want to see a P0216 among others. Auto trannies are weak IMO, but totally acceptable once beefed up. Good luck.

thanks for info. I wish the truck had a manual trans but it is what it is. Possible to convert to manual if the auto fails?
