So, I know there's a fella on here who has a John Deere 404, or 466 in a 1980-something Ford truck (goes by the name Buckin Around). I've seen his pics on myspace, and I have a few questions for him, or anyone else who can give me some answers.

The big one right now is: Where did the casting (I guess it could be called an adapter) between the engine and transmission come from/come out of? Also, what SAE pattern is that?

Try the conversion forum, directly PM'ing him, or talking to him on his myspace.

I think he posted a few pics in the thread about pics of your pull trucks or the converstion forum. Nice guy and the truck runs pretty good to.

hahah, i didn't even know this video existed.. what a pile of $hit sled that was, the next closest truck was over 160' behind me... I usually have a few trucks that give me grief, but I guess they couldn't get that terdbox moving fast enough...lol, not to many videos of here lettered up, think it runs good now, wait till next year:rockwoot: and oh yeah, if theres anyone that wants to know anything about this truck, let me know, i'll point you in the right direction:st:

Yeah that sled was a serious POS this year, Last year (08) it did pretty good I thought. If I remember correctly you took second in the 8500 class, I took 3rd, and the "Stock Sucks" cummins took first. This year twice as many trucks show up and it gets canceled due to the fact they cant keep the dam sled together:mad: I can't believe what a cluster f$ck this year's event was, I mean you could not even hear the trucks being called up and they kept changing the sled setting in between trucks, WTF.. The Danville built duramax made a full pull and could have kept going out to the main road, then they re-ajust the sled and he pulls about 50' I won't be back there this year unless they get another sled. Were else are you pulling this year?? I need to get some sort of list together for local tracks.

A new Deere 359CID engine has been put in a Chevy dually before. That guy is a machinist and made his own adapter plate. Was done in the early to mid '90s.

Dano's was the DT466 powered Superduty, and Travis has the 00-02 Dodge 2500 silver 5speed with the bull haulers on it, always runs strong.... probably doesn't help you much, but i tried haha.

And thanks for all the info in the PM you sent me.

In the present form that it is in right now i'd guess in the neighborhood of 550-700+ HP, I would love to dyno it, but the SCS gear reduction is killing me for any chance of having an accurate number... Someday I will know, but for now, thats the best I could guess with my modifications :st:

Just ignorant of some of this stuff so bear with me....... Why does the SCS through off the accuracy on the rollers?

I'm look for about 700-800 out of my DT466, and if your spicer is holding up well to power in that range, I may not be needing that Eaton Fuller TX14607b 7 speed after all.

Heath, the SCS that I have is an older one and its gear ratio is 2:1 only, not changeable, so if i dyno'd it, it would be like running low range, not a good idea, it could be done, but it wouldn't ever be close to accurate.. as for the transmission, if you have ever seen a NV4500 dodge compared to a Spicer CM5552A you'd think the NV belonged in a Chevete... I really don't foreshadow seeing the Spicer breaking, but you never know

HMM, Nope I dont remember either one of those trucks. The dodge maybe? But I would remember that Ford for sure if I saw it pull. I plan on focusing a little more on pulling this year and a little less on the 1/4 so I would assume I will run into a few more guy's (& Gal's) this year. I have a couple more video's of The John Deer ford from last year I will see If I can find. :Cheer:

I gottcha. The low range won't let the you really put a load on the 466 to get a real reading.

I was hoping to stay away from a really heavy tranny like the eaton fuller (575+lbs.). I'm looking at a Spicer 6+1 (overdrive) as I'd like to keep it as light as possible with 1500 lbs of engine sitting under the hood.

Brad, What are you using for a transmission?

Buckin Around
10-02-2010, 08:46 PM
im using a Spicer CM5552A medium duty with a SAE 2 bellhousing, its a 5 speed, direct drive, 1-3/4" input shaft. Its a pretty girthy unit. All cast iron, and heavy.
