I knew to be the fastest, and stay the fastest in the diesel world, I was going to have to make power, and raise the rpm power band of the Cummins. I knew it needed more airflow, everyone laughed, porting heads not needed right. . I went to Greg Young and pleading with him to help me design a sheet metal intake , Greg had been the fabricator for Eddie Hills Top Fuel championship team, and built a lot of the parts on my Competition eliminator engines .He was the truck at Greg’s shop later to become ZZ Custom Fabrication

Yes, the work with the kids is very rewarding, and an opportunity help kids set goals and strive to achieve their dreams, and it’s also a way of giving back for being privileged to race on this level.
I helped develop the Math in Motion and Physics in Motion program with G. M. Performance Parts. It was a combination of motivational speaking, and an attempt to get younger kids interested in math and advanced math studies. I worked with NHRA youth education services as well doing this same style of speaking.
I am looking forward this summer to take the car overseas with the USO and visit the troops. This is what it takes to be a professional, and its something, I have done for the last 20 years in racing.

Here is a neat one, Best engineered at Dallas, this inline 6 engine was one of my most controversial programs . With G.M. performance Parts help, and a little from my good friend WJ , I flew to G.M.s foundry in Toluca Mexico and persuaded them cast me some inline 6 cylinder heads without a water jacket or ports.

This head was solid cast iron, and weighed 250 lbs. Al Weis pictured here carved it in to a 81 lbs cylinder head that flowed 400 cfm of air and made 2.52 hp per cid on gasoline. Al was also the crew chief of Eddie Hills top fuel championship team. So of interest to diesel why. If he can do that with a cast iron solid chunk, he could do a diesel head out of a 12 or 24 valve head that was cast in the same way. Hmmmm .

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa147/GREG560/best-1.jpg

this head was top secret for a long time , and the 260 inline 6 it set on top of made almost 700 hp running a best of 8.16 on a shut off pass. we never ran it out the back door for fear of killing the index.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa147/GREG560/dragsternx053.jpg

Notice under the ports , that’s the water jacket plugs he carved out , and hid with aluminum plugs

Greg, nice work. I am glad you do all this for the diesel world. But I have 2 questions for you. I'm just curious.

1. If that Dr.P truck ran that clean back then, WTF is wrong now?
2. How long has ATI been building dampners for high performance tractors?

I have only spoke to Greg on the phone once...but he was very informative, and was willing to help me.
I don't know the complete history of everyone in the Diesel World, but it's cool to pick up a magazine once in a while and say, Hey...I've talked to that guy!
Interesting to see how some far out idea's helped diesel engines get to where they are today.

It just cracks me up that someone can come on here and post 1 dyno sheet and have the entire site swinging on their nuts, but Greg shows numerous photo's of his involvement with motorsports and people start bashing. How many NASCAR or Top fuel drivers own the vehicles they drive? How many engine builders publish pics of engines they can not even afford themselves?

And I can not speak of many things Greg has claimed involvement, but as far as ATI goes he is telling the truth. I was sitting in their shop when Greg called and a engineer flat out told me they never considered doing a damper for a diesel truck until Greg started hounding them to.

Low class jealousy at it's finest.

It may have been ATI's first for a diesel pick up but I'm pretty sure they were building them for 466's and 360's before that. No jealousy here, just was curious.

Here is one of the recent motivational speaking events. This school is near the Naval Air station and most of the kids are military dependents, one of the reasons I have always make an effort to attend for the last 11 years .

Notice the paper towels and bottle of spray wax. This is part of my speech. It is in short about that if you want something in life, you have to be willing to work for it, even if it is at a entry level job, because that is sometimes the only way to get to the top.

I go on to explain that even in the seemly glamour’s world of racing there are jobs that might seem unimportant and not as fun to do, like wiping the car down, to keep it looking shinny.

I then go on to explain that my first task to do around a race car was just that , to wipe the car down , and that even if it seemed lowly , it was very important in that this shinny car was seen on TV and in front of the crowds. I also explained that a job like that could lead to the top job if they just pursued their dreams and put in a little work.

Then I let the kids grab a rag and some wax , They never forget a little hands on.

and it was a little dirty after coming back from a test session

I just want to add... The first time I spoke to Greg I was calling from a Morale/Wellfare/Recreation (MWR) center at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Falcon, Iraq. Oh how the military loves their acronyms. And when Greg himself picked up the phone, the first thing he did was thank me for for doing what I do. Since then I've turned 4,000RPM on his drivetrain, been to his house, ate dinner with him and his lovely wife Ronda several times, been in Greg Youngs, Mike Woods, and Big Al's shops, as well as had lunch with them all sitting at the same table... All I can say is Greg Hogue may spout off at times. But, he truly is a class act, a man of his word, a friend, a man who values the people who serve, and a man who has built a rail that's going to whoop JOHN ROBINSONS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greg has the recources, the financial baking, and the racing knowledge to do what he says he's going to do. I personally had the privelege to tow his NX dragster from Wichita Falls to his house in Aledo turning 4,000RPM on his valvetrain. And all I can say are his parts work, for sled pulling and for the normal everyday working man. Thanks Greg for supporting your troops. Come see me in Afghanistan this summer. I'll be the guy holding the M-4 about to go out and kick a door in.

Semper Fi Buddy ,

and thanks I was told that was what it was , it ran and held the record for a while in C gas in the late 50’s .Yes Sir...I grew up in the mid west. We would go to the "swamp" in the old days. The "swamp" was/is St Louis Int Dragway. Last time I was there as a kid, I bought a REVEL model car from Arnie "The Farmer" Beswicks son. He ran a funny car that was Pontiac powered. Now I'm showing my age...:hehe: Keep doing what your doing Greg..

But, he truly is a class act, a man of his word, a friend, a man who values the people who serve, and a man who has built a rail that's going to whoop<<<Is on the realm of homey it's "Whip" JOHN ROBINSONS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Robison?!?!?!?! No offense to John, but the stated goal was whipping Scheids rail down in the 6s, not fooling around with that hillbillys lead sled in the 10s!!!

Let's work this out logicly ok?

Johns car, it's been down the track a few times

dalpilots truck starts and moves under it's own power. Damn impressive for a 6.0

Greg's rail has one Greg-power as he pushes it around. No videos of it running much less down the strip

Now you, weren't you the guy on TDR that named his dodge truck "goat"? Something normally reserved for gto's?

No Jason alphabet, I'm the guy who can't stand people like you... Who hate on people that are building a small project on private money that'll change the diesel word.

Greg Hogue is DIESEL MOTORSPORTS.

What the hell have you done for the sport other than run your mouth (fingers) on the stupid keyboard? You're a joke.

I'm not hateing, just pointng out facts so people don't get all the wrong info. Interesting your saying Greg is gong to be king and the car hasen't even started in the 2 or 3 Years he claim "6s". It's an important fact. Once it runs an moves, everyone will applaude. If it's fast, well damn, competition. Until then, vaporware.

You seem to forget we hear all kinds of fluff, but no results. It's all in how it's presented. Never got that impression with John r or compd car's.

Btw, towing gregs whatvever doesn't mean " you've done something". He's just using you because he is barrowing a vw beetle instead of a truck.

I said it before, doesn't matter what i've done. But if you wanna get in line because I hurt your feelings there sweety, I'll buy you a beer. I'll make it out of Minnesota sonetime this year.

Correction, Greg Hogue is GREG HOGUE Motorpsorts.

And so far everything hes done has changed Greg Hogues world, (good for him!)but has had very little effect anywhere else, we shall see, quest for the 6s right? Not the 10s?

I know Texas is a big state, but there is a few things going on beyond its borders..........:hehe:

Gregs got his own tow rig. At the time he was having a hitch put in it. I just think it's funny that everyone who hates Greg always posts on his threads. Isn't that ironic?
