I've just installed a 887/215hp pump that I got back from the local pump shop for a rebuild. Its popping and missing bad on hard acceleration through the exhaust just for a split second no matter where the RPM's are. It's like the first stab of the throttle then it clears up. No problems when accelerating slow. There is no white smoke like unburned fuel. Just lots of black. Timing was set a 5.7mm from #1 TDC which I was shoting for 15.5* to 16* I have the Stage 2 injectors, 100 plate centered, 3gsk's set at 3 clicks, Stock(HOT egt) turbo. All new fuel hoses, lift pump and fuel heater eliminated. It ran great before with the 838/160hp pump. What should I be looking for?:bang Thanks, Guys.

Well, maybe someone here will be better able to help you, but I'm thinking that the pump shop would be the first I called. If they are anywhere near decent they should be able and willing to help you get things dialed in.

Just a thought,
George

Well I pulled the 3gsk's and 100 plate from my 160 pump and installed them myself in the 887 which I installed on the 838 pump previously. The pump shop left the locking wire off:evil probably on purpose.

They gave me a new overflow valve which I installed with the pump. This thing stalls very easily. Do you think it has to do with the timing?

I think it's timing, but I would recommend calling your pump shop too.

if it stalls very easily, it might be a governor issue.

when i put a gsk in my old '94, i tightened the springs too tight at first and the truck would die when the a/c compressor turned on. W/out a/c, it was fine. It stalled soo easily.

I would say to check the tightness on the springs.
WHere is it idling at??

I bought a new timing pin soo when I get a chance I'm going to re-time the engine. I set the GV's 3 clicks after the first initial click. The idle was at 1000rpm when first installed. I adjusted the idle screw to 600rpm. The engine is real hard to get started aswell. I have to give a little throttle at start up and it smokes and misses until it clears up then runs fine.

It was timing. Some how I managed to set it at 4.05mm lift needless to say the timing and I were both retarded:hehe: . I set it to 5.55mm and now it RUNS!:woohoo: Rolling from the light in 2nd it will spin the right duals (open diff)all the way and into 3rd right before I'm ready to grab 4th. I still have alot of tuning to do. EGT's will send the gauge into orbit so now I ready to get started on fabbing the twins.

What exactly is the point of twins? One spools low RPM and one high to fight lag? I want to get rid of smoke and EGT and maybe get some mileage.

well ya know what they say, "timing is everything!"
