So I am planning on putting a p-pumped 5.9 into a 77 GMC. I have a GTA4294BS off of a C-12 CAT that I want to make fit on it. It has a .66 A/R compressor housing with a 68mm compressor wheel. The exhaust side is a 1.44 housing with a 74mm exhaust wheel. If I put a 1.01 t4 exhaust housing on this and put a t4 exhaust manifold onto the engine would this turbo work even though its a journal bearing not a BB? It has a 5 inch intake and 5 inch exhaust on it to. Anybody have any suggestions? I am planning on tuning the pump and putting in a set of 370 Marine injectors in the truck. Would that be enough fuel?

I think that turbo is way too big. The size of the intake wheel is what you need on the exhaust side. There are different GT42 turbos out there. Does yours have a water-cooled center section? This could make a good top turbo, if you wanted to run twins. If you have a shop nearby that works on injection pumps and turbos, show them what you have and what you want to do with the truck. They can tell you if it will work or can be made to work.

Nope not water cooled. I didnt think it was really al that big. I amnot familiar with the cummins though. I know that on a PSD a modded H2e has a 66mm intake wheel where this one is only 2mm larger. I have heard of trucks running my setup with a modded H2e no problem and they love it. I was thinking that with a small enough exhaust housing as in the 1.01 it would spool fine. What if I rebuilt it with a BB kit?

Pretty much I was just wondering if this thing would mount up onto the cummins without much problem.

The GT4294 will not work well. Find a different turbo.

powerstrokes are v8's and create more exhaust engergy too. thats why PS's and Dmax's come with bigger chargers from the factory than cummins do.

I knew that I just figured with the fuel it would work

Can you toss on a bigger compressor wheel (75mm or so?) and throw an S360 up top? Thats the only way I can see that turbo working.

I don't see why the 4294 wouldn't work. I wouldn't want to do a bunch of heavy towing, but it would work. I ran a 4294 on a vp truck for a year with a 1.15 housing. It worked marginally, but with a p-pump and decent injectors (I'd look for another option than marines unless they're very cheap) it's worth a try.

The OP hasn't said what he wants to do with the truck.

Grocery getter, sledpuller, drag racer, what?

AFAIK you cannot "rebuild" a plain bearing charger with a BB cartidge. I suppose the housing could be machined, etc. to accept it but a lot of other stuff changes. Probably not worth the trouble.

DD plow truck in the winter and sled puller in the summer and eventually all puller.

Was this JB or a BB turbo?

Journal bearing.

what RPM would it spool at and what all were you running with it?

It's been a couple years ago, but as I remember it was lighting up about 1750 and full bore by 1900 or so. Other mods were 7x.018 injectors, tst comp, hrvp.

I have a similar question, not to hijack this thread though..

Looking to build a 12v to swap into the truck in my sig. 5spd 3500 4x4.

I have a GT4294 with the 70mm compressor wheel and the 84mm turbine wheel in a 1.01 housing, journal bearing.

Plans for the engine are a good cam, ported heat with custom intake and exhaust manifolds, and since the housing is a divided twin scroll type, I would be interested in running a SP quick spool valve. Looking to see spool around 1800rpm.

What do you think?

I would say it would work but other people say different.

I'm suprised there isn't something in between the s300 size turbine and the small s400 size turbine yet. Big jump between the two. Same goes for gap between GT4094 and GT4294.

would that be a bullet or a k31 between a big s300 and small s400?
