I am wanting to buy a tig welder. What would you guys that do it for a living recommend would like to keep it in the lower price range. I want it for turbo piping but will use it for other projects eventualy. Thanks

I have a Miller Syncrowave 350LX that might be over kill for what your wanting but I got mine off craigslist pretty reasonably. used machines go for a faction of what new ones are.

I have about $2k into a Tweco 211i with a bottle for TIG and one for MIG.

I have a everlast 200 dx good machine for the money.

I have Miller 250LX, good machine. I only wish I could use it to its full potentional:lolly:

I want to buy one as well. Would like to stay with miller as that is the mig I currently have and the local dealer is really been good to me. Mainly for turbo piping, intakes, and rollcage.

Never thought about buying used. Worried I would buy a damaged one and not know it since my gig experience is very limited.

Same here, I've found a 3 phase miller goldstar 302 on Craigslist. Anyone have any good or bad thoughts on these

I have a Lincoln 225, I really like it, controls are easy to figure out. Big enough to do most aluminium that I need to do and it didn't break the bank about $2100 if I remember right.

My theory on good TIGs are this:
You don't need a Lincoln or Miller unless you need it to be reliable 14hrs a day, every day, forever.

Check out some of the American designed, Chinese built units like Eastwood or Everlast. I think you'll be very happy.
Lots of times they'll do deals where it comes with a TIG, a MIG, plasma cutter, and a cart for under $2k. I know guys that use them three of four times a week with no problems after ~5 years.

Htp invertig 221 here. I'm not really a welder, just try to to as much as I can. I bought this setup not knowing anything about tig welding almost 2 years ago, and I feel like it was worth every penny. However, if I didn't get it on black Friday sale, I probably would've went with an everlast powertig 250. The only things I read bad about them was from people who never even seen one in person. For $1500ish, it seems like a very capable setup

I have a lincoln square wave tig 200 and it's been awesome . If they're still doing a promo it's around 1300$ .
Ac/dc fully equipped , has some adjustability more than what most hobbyists will need .
-17 torch .
It's worth it to check into it . Carried and serviced at any welding supply store.

I also have a Lincoln squarewave tig 200 best money I have spent and works on a 30 amp breaker in my garage welding .250 aluminum with 1/8 tungsten and running 200 amps works good I will post a pic of intake I did with it

Everlast machines are the best bang for your buck water cooled or air cooled. Great machines and longest warranty out there. I run a htp 221dv myself and have had great luck with it. Spends most of its life 200-220amps welding aluminum. I prefer water cooled machines because of the smaller torch and cooling. I've used the Lincoln 225 posted above for hours on end. They are a great machine the one I used was air cooled so the torch did stay hot even though I was only in the 70-100amp range. If you want to spend an extra $1000+ for no reason go buy a miller.

I appreciate all the replys I've looked into all the machines that have been said so far. Looks like the Everlast or eastwood would be best for me. Trying to decide what size I need. I don't expect to do anything thick over 1/4 inch mostly evetything will be automotive. What's enough amperage and I've heard the foot petal really comes in handy

Don't buy Eastwood, there junk for anything thin. Id go everlast

That's to bad about the eastwood it seamed like a nice cheep machine but you get what you pay for I guess
