P7100 Pump timing issue

I recently bought myself a dial indicator to time my 12 valve. Its all goes smoothly until I break the gear free and the pump jumps back about .090 very time. Any one have a trick or suggestion?

Only torque the gear to 25ft/lbs when turning the engine over to reach the desired plunger lift, then when you need to remove the gear to rotate the engine to TDC it will have less tendency to jump.

We welded two nuts together, then use a bolt through the nuts to turn/hold the pump. When you have it where you want it, tighten the nut to the pump.
