Pictures of 12 valve milled rocker pedestals for stud clearance

Does anybody have pictures of milled rocker pedestals?

I was under the impression that the amount of material that may need to be removed measured in the thousandths... But here I am trying to get 250 thousandths milled off and wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

I'm confused. Are you wondering if you need to remove .250" or if the tolerance requires you to measure it in thousandths?

I spent a lot of time looking at it today, and to install my head with my A1 studs, using the washers, with a standard-thickness head gasket and without clearancing my valve covers, I need to mill about .24 of an inch from under the head nut. And it's the nut that is hitting the covers, not the stud.

Yet somehow I see all these references of people milling .020" off. Like is that an inside joke, or are they just doing that in addition to clearancing the valve covers or what? Because for these things to fit I'm trying to get over ten times that much milled off.

The stud even when bottom tapped will hit the valve cover. Regardless of nut. The valve covers have to be clearanced. I have never seen a set of A1 studs that don't do exactly this
