HX60 turbine and exhaust housing options
I've got some questions about HX60s and their turbine options. I'm looking to street drive a 2006 5.9 stock internals with 250% injectors, t4 foot manifold, and other supporting mods for 1k+ HP. The turbo I currently have on the shelf is a HX60 76/109 comp and 92/97 (3.6) turbine. I'm Undecided on what turbine and housing to run. I can't seem to find a lot of information on this subject since it seems to be uncommon for street driven applications...
I've talked to a few knowledgeable and read things on the google, they have mentioned the 3.4 "bucket" turbine and offered in the 11 and 12 blade configuration. Along with the 3.0 turbine with custom divided housings. One of my good buddies has a HX60 73.5/104 92/97 and the Columbus Diesel 19cm housing on his 12v with lots of fuel. I was impressed with how well it drove but I'm still curious as to if there's a better street setup for a 5.9 CR. I don't have an exact power goal other than a 1k hp street killer, truck is currently at 800 and street driven. Any input on PN's, turbines and appropriate exhaust housings for said turbines would be greatly appreciated. |
I am not trying to burst your bubble or say your other knowledgeable holset guys are wrong...But first hand experience on the road is hard to beat. I would do what we know works... Worse case scenario I'm sure we can sell it and get our money back out of it... That's my .02 cents.

What turbine housing do you have with it now?
|
He has a 32cm t6 currently with that charger.

When you start pricing parts for the HX60 you may reconsider.

^this. Trying to rewrite the book is always fun, but that 19cm housing is $1200 from Columbus (or used to be). You can buy a smaller turbine s400 with a billet wheel for a few more bucks than just the housing, and it will get you where you want to be

CDS housing is $663 now I believe. I called them awhile back about it. Money is not his issue. He desires others experience with the 3.4 v 3.6 turbine.

I have yet to see the cupped inducer 3.4" 11-blade make as much power as either the straight blade 3.4/3.6" 12-blade, but I also don't see any real redeeming aspect to use an HX60 in a street application.

Weston, Thanks for the input on those turbines! Do you know how the 3.4 vs 3.6 12 blade compare? Let me clear up the current situation. I’m currently running a S472/87/1.10 sxe. I had a s467/87/1.0 fmw as well. I would like to run this hx60. I’m well aware the potential of the BWs and all of the different turbos they have and their power levels. As leftcoast said I’m aware this isn’t common and I’m willing to spend money to make it work because I think it will be different and a neat idea especially on a CR truck.

Typically they make very similar power with the 3.4" having an edge at lower RPM as would be expected. Now this data is from negative sweeps on an engine dyno so I cannot speak to how they would respond in a street application.

So the 3.4 could be more desirable for a street app. Is there a huge difference in the turbine profile between the 3.4 and 3.6 both being a 12 blade? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
It's the same turbine with a different trim, if you are trying to run something like this in a street application I would use the 3.4" straight 12-blade turbine.

New comp wheel and turbine showed up. Thanks leftcoast for the hook up on parts. 3.4(97/86) 12 blade turbine and 76/109 comp. the plan as of now is to run a Columbus 19cm T4 housing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...50da045e46.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8828b97830.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f6fed40bf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c7ccd8358f.jpg

Looks great. Can not wait to see it running.
|
Bump?
Drives really well. Very similar to my 72sxe I had. Housing is off a M11 that was machined for a hx60. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...da20165e6b.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Looks awesome in there! Plan on running it on the dyno anytime soon?

I’ve always been curious what a 12v would light a turbo setup at compared to a 5.9 cr using the same trans and stall speed converter. I imagine it would be tougher to get the same results though.
