Trying to get this thing wrapped up and got a question. We are running the dodge nv4500 and the stock tcase (241dld i think?) along with a kingpin dana 60 out of a 1979 ford. My question is with actuating the 4x4. Since i have manual hubs do i still need vacuum lines for it to work? I'm unfamiliar with how the vacuum works inside the transfer case. Thanks in advance

The vaccum line on any 241 dodge case are only used to switch the CAD, not for any t-case function.

I converted my '02 using an '05 F350 axle. Here's the thread. Also made it a 4x4 in the process!

hell yeah man that's sweet.BigDctd that posted in your thread actually did most of the work on this truck, I just ended up with it. I want to to a dash swap from a 99 or newer chevy. I want to swap the whole interior out. The red interior is probably the worst color I can imagine coming from the factory. I'm gonna get some pictures up possibly tomorrow.

Looks good! What size wheels & tires?

feartheswamp 07-04-2012 09:32 AM

Nice swap man. That almost looks like a 1500?? Im entertaining the idea of doing one myself. How is it driving so far?

Drives great. Highly recommend a good cross over steering setup. It drives perfectly straight at 75. It actually is a 1500

There were numerous reasons that I chose a D60 from an '05 ford.
1) lock out hubs
2) crossover steering
3) high pinion
4) coil springs
5) stronger than an AAM 9.25
and the list goes on....

Does anyone have any advice on retrofitting some amp powersteps? They don't make any for trucks this far back, but i'm sure someone has done it or at least seen it

Man I'm thoroughly impressed. I will definitely have to pick your brain a little bit. Do you have a build thread?

as far as the powersteps go - The best ive seen was a flat steel beam (about a half inch to an inch) that ran between the body and frame. longways from body mount to body mount - that gives you a sturdy flat surface to weld and drill mounting holes into.

search BigDctd for his posts. he started the project. he got the motor and tranny in, and I finished up the steering/axle/etc. I can definitely answer any questions though. I've been around the truck since the project began.

I ordered some new mirrors today that look like the ones off of newer chevy/gmc trucks. I also ended up just ordering some black powdercoated nerf bars instead of powersteps. I figured for $1200 difference i can deal with it for now.

Got everything put on today. Going to look into leveling the front. It looks short now that it has the nerf bars on it. I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out though

And now 15% on sides and back, and 35% on the windshield

Sweet ride! Did you use a GM 14 bolt in the rear or switch both diffs as a match set when you installed the front diff?

burtonboarder 09-07-2012 11:11 AM

It has the 14 bolt in the rear. We were going to swap front and rear, but didn't feel like cutting and rewelding shock mounts and spring perches

I looked for BigDctd's build thread but no luck. Do you happen to know the title of the post?

I'm going to start collecting parts here soon. Id like to go with the same setup you're running (pulling out the auto and putting in a NV4500). If im not mistaken I have to move everything back right? Then shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front? Im already on a body lift which Im hoping will with some of the clearance issues. Its also SAS'd with crossover steering.

What did you do about brakes and A/C?

Thanks
