Nederhemert Testday MVJ3 truckpuller. Bit of homework to do. More power more bouncing so something dos not go well.

Not a very good start with our semi truck pullers.
Still facing oil pressure problems with the new 18.4L engine and in the fist pull the back came off the switch that turns on the big fuelpump getting short on power. Second run they mess things up not getting traction ending up on the back of the pack. The MVJ3 bonneted truck did a bit better but still struggling with the clutch unable to hold engine power and last run the clutch did not work any more but we got 6e place. We got some time before the next round so hope we can some it all by that time. With the 3 times champ Hobby sport semi puller Ny Titan did a lot better ending up second place yesterday. No big changes just had to drop weight from 9,5Ton to 9 tons so the pulling sled can handle these truck better. |
Morocco Desert Challenge 2018 has started. After the first special stage the Scania from Versteijnen Truck Racing is holing 4e place. We know the Scania Torpedo is fast as we done a top 10 place in last Le Dakar with the Dakar Speed truck that’s almost identical and has the same 12.7L commonrail XPI engine.

Semi Truck Racing today on the Zandvoort circuit. We got pole position but there are more out there wanting first place so after one turn on the first race things went wrong and the rest of the race was spend behind the pace car, well pace truck. Well good thing today is we found the limitation on what the hi pressure fuelpump can handle limiting engine torque but we now have to make modifications to the pump and hope it will give us more fuel. Time will tell.

Had a great race weekend on the track but we had a load of traction problems, please give these trucks some stiffer springs or like during the last race a load of water on the track.
Problem is when the truck leans over in a turn it takes the load of one side on the rear having no chance to get the engine power on the tarmac other than power sliding having to lift the accelerator peddle. Next up will be Italy end of may. |
Some more truck racing from last weekend.

Not the best of pulling tracks on our own pulling event and blow a turbo on the MVJ2 truck due to still having problems with oil pressure so we have job to do.
Semi Truck Sport class was a way better story with 1 first place on two pulling evens and the rest of the pack using our stuff in top 3 as well so I’m happy. |
After movie morocco desert challenge Schoones Dakar Rally Team
Did go very well upon that one dune that made the truck jump down to hard and the driver broke it’s back. All goes well with the driver and he will recover from for the full 100% we hope but yes the grim reality is that motor sport can be dangerous but that’s also the parts that bring all the sensation and fun and load of stories to tell after. Next up this weekend FIA European truck racing @ Misano Italy Round 1 26 - 27 May 2018 |
Last weekend FIA European TrckRacing Italy Misano.
Great fun loads of driving but testing did fail due to some sensor on the truck breaking down so for the most unable to make progress on the engine. |
Murphy's Law is driving for Arnold cancer research
Arnold is a foundation that collects money for cancer research, research is needed so that doctors can help our loved ones better in the future. How dos it work? Simple every meter they pull the sled more money will be sponsored. For those wanting to know what engine is in this truck. V8 2000 series MTU and I think in total only 200 where build like this. Engine is upgrated from 16L to 18.4L |

Done a lot of work and some testing but still not happy as we have to hi blowby due to big piston ring gap. Also chance to cam timing so engine now has more top en power and I think there is still more power left changing the cam timing even more.
Also had some bad luck blowing a hole in one of the charge air hoses. If it’s up to me I want to experiment a lot more so we know what do or dos not work so we can perform better next year as we under performing this year as a team. Cromvoirt MVJ2 finale run 5e place. |
Still working on what’s wrong with the 18.4L V8 but slowly making progress.
Problems is the engine performs about the same as the 16.4L engine from the MVJ3 truck but has 2000CC more displacement so we are looking @ camshaft and exhaust manifolds. Need to spend more time looking into part we have made if they are up to specification but with these cams is nowhere easy. We have to make changes to them in order to find out what dos what. AFR or oxygen left in exhaust gas tells the story. Will take some more time. CAT ECM for Canada and USA is booming. Must be doing something good. LOL End up with a 7e place pulling the same distance last night with both trucks. Insane! The MVJ3 the bonneted truck broke the gearbox on the final pull. To bad we had good speed making it possible to get to the pull off. |

What are the basic rules for the sled pulls?
|
OK in short. Max 2900Rpm ( pulling sled reads RPM as well) single stage turbo charging only max 2 turbo in parallel and max size per turbo 5” for safely. 4mm steel plating around the turbo and stud and double cross in the exducer turbine side. Air shutoff valves in front of turbo compressor and fuel shutoff valves. Max engine displacement 18.5L. max weight of the truck 8,5 to 9 tons.
|
You can have two turbos in parallel with a 5” compressor inducer??
At only 2900rpm I would think that would be tough to keep on top of the turbos. We have some tractor classes around here that run RPM limit. Very interesting, it takes a very different camshaft, injection pump, and turbo setup with limited rpm. |
We follow dutch rules but never heard of 5" limit ?
