no mechanical fan, serpentine belt routing

I'm going to be deleting the mechanical fan in my 98 12 valve, but am unsure how to route the serpentine belt correctly. well I could probably figure it out, I am most concerned with ensuring the belt retains proper tension to spin the water pump and alternator without slipping. I'm assuming that's the exact reason the belt tensioner is there in the first place but people in other forums are saying its not worth the hassle, that the fan clutch helps prevent slipping, and to just leave the fan clutch on without the fan. But whats the point of that? I don't want an extra, "useless" moving part on my truck.:bs:

Anyone?

Save your money and just use the pulley without the clutch and fan bud. If you truly want it gone, take it off and hunt the correct belt size so the tensioner is sprung in the same position. The bearing on that fan pulley is a pretty stout peice, probably a bunch out there with a million miles on them.

This is exactly what I did on mine. I have electric fans and just retained the stock fan pulley.

Thank y'all for the help. Gonna hunt for the correct size belt then, if I can not find one then I'll just use the oem belt with the fan pulley. Just cleaning up the engine bay on my 100,000 mile 12 valve, Wanna make it look as nice as possible since I'm taking the front case off for KDP.

Here you go, ill look later to see if I have a number for the belt and tensioner. For fans I run the flex-a-lite dual fans. part # 262 They are pricey but I found them refurbished on ebay reasonably priced...

They are flex a lite brand dual fan setup. I will see if I can dig up a model number. I know they are a slim style bc I was short on space between my radiator and engine.

You cant use the stock tensioner like that? I also run the dual flex a lite, but with the fan hub. But I have an intake runner so the pipe is a real PITA to get around for timing adjustments. If i could delete the fan hub that would be great! A belt part number would be the icing on the cake!

For no fan or AC the Belt is Gates k080496, the pulley is a dayco 89103 is a ribbed pulley for the tensioner you can use but dont need.

I pulled this from another post on the same thing

12valve95 10-23-2018 04:59 PM

Outside Circumference (In): 50-3/16 Inch Effective Length (In): 49-5/8 Inch

Here are the measurements for that belt.

The stock tensioner is fine I got 50-60k on one set up the same way. Been that way over 2 years no problems yet. Daily driven

I'm surprised it fit in there with the electric fans! Must be pretty slim.

I had dual electric fans with stock pulley for a while. Was a tight fit! I couldn't fit my hand between pulley and fan.
