We have done it. Finch the Le Dakar Rally with the Scania Torpedo in top 10 place overall.

The team calls the engine a beast and it did not miss a beat, only small thing we have to chance is a engine wire loom plug as water gets in to it driving it like insane into a river.

Time coming up for this project will be evaluation on things and more fine tuning to come and maybe build a 3e engine if they going to build a new rally truck for a new team.

We did write history today.

Ready for departure to the Netherlands!

The vehicles have been boarded again and we are about to board the plane to the Netherlands!
While waiting at the airport, we came to this conclusion:
There were:
21 flat tires, 3 broken steering rods, 7 broken leaf springs, 3 torn stabilizer bars, 2 broken rims, 180 ltr gearbox and axle oil, 9000 liters of diesel, 1200 cans of soda, 35 cans of meatballs and 900 bottles of water needed to finish this heavy Dakar rally.
But we also have 3 beautiful medals from the 40th Dakar and beautiful memories with tough stories!
Dakar Rally, you were unforgettable again!

Cooler depends a lot on the fuel system. I think the one we use is 10x50x8 Cm and only a small portion is return fuel so flow over the cooler is very low.

So then it's pretty easy to keep the fuel in the tanks at or just above ambient.

What place did you finish?

tall boy 01-23-2018 01:29 AM

We finish 9e place overall, the speed is there but in general the amount of problems the team have to face will set the ranking. 21 flat tires x 10 minutes = 210 minutes , 3 broken steering rods x 1 hour in total will be 6,5 hours delay in total and there will be more like navigation problems and the list goes on.
In general this amateur team only drives one rally a year and ending up in top 10 between factory teams with have a job driving rally’s al year is not bad and I hope they will step up things as for driving more rally’s and spending more time in the gym as well. Also adding a aircon top unit on the cab will help a lot on a hot day maintaining concentration not sweting it out.
I also hope we can build one more truck as 3 trucks or more can be ideal. One fast runner rally truck, next truck fast assistance and the rest with some more spare parts as a back-up in case things break down. This is how the top rally team operate there rally teams.

Good Job!!

Yesterday we had the welcome home party of Dakar Speed rally team and get the feedback on the engine first hand. Engine did not miss a beat, great power and torque even on hi altitude where oxygen is low, no turbo lag or power losses but how can this be that’s we where among the best on engine performance?

Regarding the engine looks like I’m out of development work. Well almost as I like to reduce heat radiation for the exhaust system. It’s getting very hot under the cab and the TiAl membrane dos not like it and yes it’s a water cooled version but even when you connect water lines they do not hold for long but that’s OK as the team know when to replace them but was hoping a other brand saying they are the best did not reply the e-mail nor telephone for having there wastegate tested. It takes balls to run this rally or as some organization member stated to a rally team that protested after being late after problems on the stage not able to start the next stage. This is not a rally this is Dakar. Fail the test go home.

Shake down for the rebuild Top Trucks Dakar Scania. Must be fun to drive!

What new? Now running the second generation XPI commonrail engine with the well proven ECU data set we used on this year Dakar Rally. Extreme Heat and low ambient pressure on over 4000 meter elevation and almost no power losses or turbo lag. Just a great engine we build but we like to do better always so evaluation will start soon on the other Rally Truck and plans are made for further development and testing new things.

Working on load of new stuff and this 8L Volvo D8K commonrail Euro6 is one of them.

MVJ2 semi truckpuller ready for indoor pulling events. The team worked hard on the truck and not only it has a new build second generation 18,4L V8 engine but a lot of other things have changed as well. We have to go back in weight as the pulling sled used are having difficulty to stop us so for the last years they try to break hard from the starting line unable to let us build speed but we will pull harder every year and we do not want to end up with a 30 ton sled so we are going from 9,5 ton to 9 ton this year and expect to move down to even 8 tons in the future so better take all dead weight off where we can and place it back in places where we can find the perfect balance so we can shift weight in 20Kg metal/lead bars.

18.4l with common rail I assume? Must be pretty easy to make power!

Well the last 18.4L engine that blow up was commonrail but it was to easy to empty out the two hi pressure fuel pumps we used on them so we went back to pump injectors that we know makes great power on the 16.4L we build just to concentrate on the engine it self, not on the fuel system but yes commonrail hold the future and working hard to get all parts together for both US as Canada on commonrail set-up up for sled and truck pulling projects running 2 or 3 big hi pressure fuel pumps and building the ECU systems for them as well but this all will stay under the radar. It’s more like you ask we build stuff that’s can handle 3000Bar easy as we run it all day long if needed.

Well jumping back to pump injectors sound weird for some like going back in time but technically you can get the same power from them as well as we run 3000Bar injection pressure as well on our pump injectors but it’s harder to make a cam with the fast lift needed on the pumpcam to slam in the fuel as fast as a commonrail dos but we have billed cams made and still one set under development as the other ones are in the engine and will be tested in the next weeks or so. Also we have loads of parts but not a lot of time to build a 3e generation V8 18.4L and plan is to run 3x commonrail pump on it and it will have stronger internals we think/hope as well.

Saturday will be indoor Ahoy Rotterdam mega pull, the first real test.

Have you done any work on the common rail ct15? Seems like a decent engine.

Yes it’s a decent engine and they will be or are out there running them with multiple fuelpumps to support the need for fuel. I think BOSCH did some but we can do better as for carrying parts for more fuel pressure. In Europe we do not run CAT CT but we do build some hardware CAT CT and are able to upgrade the injectors as well if wanted al do they are doing fine in US and Canada getting more fuel out of them an a load more pressure will do a very good job as well. LOL. Just stay in range of some decent fuel quality delivery not having to go massive on nozzle hole size to get the volume needed to make power.
All we did is sent a load of hardware, ECM, pumps and fuel lines & rails over that we use and they did make it fit to their engines. Just give them some pointers on things and they will take off and build it.:D

Ready for the Super Pull indoor Ahoy.

RPM governor set on the 18,4L V8 Scania and some bang bang to get the boost up to 15Psi. all set for pulling this Saturday.

tall boy 03-11-2018 08:00 AM

First win in the pocket during the European Superpull.

Yesterday was the madden run for the new build 18.4L V8 and we did not had a lot of expectations of it and let de ECU data tell us what happening.
I think we had about 5 seconds to have a look @ the data and get sent back into the arena for the pulloff. Small discussion we had, chance weight balance or up-shift a gear. No time to do both so one gear up and go for it ending up first place very close to the end of the track so the whole stadium start cheering, great experience and very rewarding after so many hour hard work from the team.

Wait INDOOR pulling!? You guys are nuts.

Test day Zandvoort racetrack Scania RaceTruck.

New engine 200Rpm faster spool-up and overdrive gearbox to keep the engine always in optimal RPM range. ECU controls the Hi/Lo spitter gear and dos quick shifter as for flooring the accelerator peddle during shifting and the ECU reduces power when the clutch peddle is used during shifting. Power reduction on gear shift is about 200ms or 0,2 seconds.
