What is the real reason of stopping production of the Eco diesel

So does any know why there are stopping production. 2 dealers told me this.

First one said they just wasn't doing what dodge wanted them too. Don't know what they wouldn't have been doing?

2nd said they was being investigated for cheating bathe emissions. similar to vw's problems a while back. So they dropped production to stop the investigation?

What has anyone else heard before I buy one. Or is it even true. Thanks

I don't know the sales numbers, but I would venture to bet that the sales numbers just aren't there.

This is the first I am hearing about it.

I would not be scared to buy one. I have 101k on mine and no real issues other than the emissions crap but that fell off now so I don't have to worry about that.

I would venture to guess that this statement pertains to sales numbers and nothing else.

if they expected X number to sell and sold significantly less than X, you move on. It's smart business.

i personally think people buy half ton gasser trucks to NOT have the "issues" of owning a diesel. I'm not saying i agree with this mindset, but it's relevant.

I also think MAJORITY of people buy diesels to have a big, functional, work horse. Sure, the ecodiesel is capable of quite a bit, but are you gonna buy one to hook a 15k lb dump trailer to every day? or even a 25 ft center console boat?

coorsman2005 06-07-2017 09:51 AM

Understand what you mean on that. I have 2 other 1tons to pull with. I'm still planning on buying the Eco for my wife. I'm wanting one for the fuel mileage. The Tahoe fuel mileage sucks.

My wife drives our with 108K on the clock....I love it...Not a power house, but a nice and gets awesome millage for a full size truck. I hope they continue to produce them.

Is yours deleted or anything?

I think some of the early issues scared off potential buyers too. I keep hoping Americans will appreciate light diesels and we could get some more cool stuff but it doesn't seem to be happening.

Jaguar has more diesel that gas models in the US. Chevy has the big trucks along with the Colorado midsize, Cruze sedan and soon hatchback, and soon the Equinox CUV. GMC has the sister vehicles to GM. Ford is said to be releasing an F-150 diesel. Nissan has the Titan XD. Jeep has the Grand Cherokee. And there are several BMW and MBZ diesel offerings still.

Diesel is not dead!!!

Don't let it die!!!

There are still a lot of diesel offerings aside from the 3/4 and 1-ton trucks...

I have not heard anything aside from this thread about Ram stoping production on the EcoDiesel. I hope they don't, but even if they do there are a lot of other offerings still...

I want a Colorado ZR2!!!:rockwoot::rockwoot::rockwoot:

I really like the Colorado diesel, I wish Toyota would bring some of their small diesels in too.

people will buy a gas truck until gas becomes more expensive than diesel

Chris Tobin 06-07-2017 03:18 PM

At our local BP station reg unleaded AND diesel are BOTH $1.959/gallon!!! It was $1.999 when I filled up to go to TS last weekend and I was stoked about that!!!

Low fuel prices and great mileage from the Cruze is a great combination!!!

If they are truly being investigated, that will continue whether or not the truck is in production. Damage control financially is another thing. Who makes the EcoDiesel engine?

There is suspicion about cheating with just about every small diesel currently offered in the USA.

oldestof11 06-07-2017 07:56 PM

2017 models are now on sale. You can go build one on the site now where a month ago you couldn't.

They are still being investigated for the 2015-2016 models. 2017's were on pause because of this

I thought the Ecodiesel was selling pretty well, I may be wrong but that was my impression. Looks like the EcoD was pulled from the market for the emissions investigation.

on the fueleconomy.gov website it doesn't even list the 2017 EcoD and while it lists the 2016 EcoD the mileage numbers have been removed. To me that points to the emissions issue.

fwiw, NO MB diesels in the US for 2017

Getting interesting

okie18 06-07-2017 08:56 PM

It's not a sales issue because you can barely find one for sale anywhere, used market included. Everyone on eco diesel fb page says the 17's are just on hold until they get epa approval. Thanks vw...
