pros and cons of the 6.0 motor

i just got a 2003 6.0 crew cab and i was wonderin wat are the most common problems and wat are the best fixes. I know nothing about powerstrokes:bang so any help would be great.

bigastrk 03-04-2009 07:20 PM

Do head studs and egr delete and you should be good to go. There may be some other small things that pop up like the ICP on the back of the motor and the veins sticking on the turbo but for the most part if you do studs and egr you should be good to go.

tsullivan85 03-04-2009 07:27 PM

ok thanks any input will help wat is a good sign of the egr goin bad

FosterW 03-04-2009 07:38 PM

The head studs will help big time. But they don't have a reputation of being the longest lasting motors around. Don't run it hot.

Dalpilot 03-04-2009 07:39 PM

I think for the amount of abuse they get they last a damned long time.

Pros: They sound sweet straight piped
They run like a raped ape with a good custom tune

Cons: Just about everything else LOL

Sonic_Superduty 03-04-2009 08:40 PM

here is what I live by: drive it like an old 2stroke detroit "slam hand in door get in it and drive" if you ***** foot them around alot it seems they have more probs. Dont run rotella oil as the spool valves like to hang up with the new rotella, may I suggest royal purple, valvoline extreme premium blue, amsoil, or lubrication engineers. keep the fuel filters changed every 5,000 miles use only motorcraft filters, just keep an eye on things and this truck should take care of you for many years to come!

well first of all....i was kidding...which i thought was painfully obvious by the LOL. second, if you'll search for the threads i've started, you'll see what kind of problems i've been having. 7 times in the shop since nov. a lot of it was crappy tech work though.

anyways....just trying to get a chuckle :Cheer:

another question is it normal on a cold start for it to not respond until it warms up

Welcome to the wild world of the 6.0!!!:kick:

tsullivan85 03-05-2009 04:23 PM

is there anyway to help this

03-6.0F-350 03-05-2009 04:54 PM

plug it in over night

stroke of luck 03-05-2009 05:18 PM

go to your dealership and get your FICM reflashed with the inductive heat/cold start update. it is the cure for a lot of the crappy cold start issues around here.

with our full kit we include full step by step directions in PDF format with illustrations to assist in R&R of the intake manifold.

Thanks for the plug, we appreciate that!:thankyou2:

tsullivan85 03-06-2009 05:02 PM

would the egr delete make a differencein the way it runs or is it just alot better on the motor

bigastrk 03-06-2009 10:39 PM

It is just better for the motor so that you don't start to boil the coolant and puke.
