Fire Ring Help

Ppumped 24v 2.5 pulling motor. To make a long story short, i had my block cut for fire rings a few years back by Scheid Diesel. Went with a 12v marine head head gasket and .125 rings. Fast forward to this weekend, pull produced a two piece cam, blown head gasket and some other paper weights. Truck made decent numbers before but have been told by reliable sources that if i could use a stock thickness head gasket, it would run better and not be such a hazing $#%ch. With all that said, has anyone ever used .105 rings with a stock thickness head gasket when your grooves were cut for .125 rings? Scheids says it would take some "fanagaling" to make it work. I know this is precision work but i also know just because the rings are .020 bigger doesn't mean the grooves directly reflect that by .020. The OD of the grooves are the same on the stock vs. marine cut grooves, so the centerlines and ID will be a touch off but would it be enough to cause it all to not seal properly? Any thoughts or opinions? Anyone else run into this issue, have you tried it?
