Help with 12valve build.. TIMING suggestions as well

well I have been building a 12 valve for two years. Its come a long way.
Im looking for advice on any other things that you guys would recommend.
I'm trying to keep the truck on the edge of streetable but I want to have more fun spanking dmax's and powerjokes at the truck and dyno days.
not sure what hp and tq il be at.. But im hoping for 700plus.. what do you guys think ill be at?

CDS was thinking 24 degrees of timing. I have talked to a few other people and they were thinking a little higher. I want a better drag and dyno truck and less street friendly, but still able to be driveable on the street. IF i get some quick replies on the timing Ill call Columbus diesel supply and get the timing bumped up before they go and finish it off

thanks guys

I did the powder coating myself candy blue over chrome not bad for a harbor freight
gun and a kitchen oven in the garage

This is my parts list..
Air dog 2 200
Laser cut delivery valves
SDX 5x.018 with stage one bodies (They said they remove the filter for more flow?)
My pump is being benched right now by Columbus Diesel supply
they said they should get about 500 to 550cc out of it.
timing is going to be set at 24 degrees (is that a good timing)
KDP
5kgsk from cds
afc is gutted right now CDS is looking for internals for me so i can tune the afc
water meth injection
haisley pushrods
retainers and keepers
head studs
fire ringed
head resurfaced
cylinder heads resurfaced
tork tek ofv 060 and have a 070 on hand (not sure which is better)
mack/rack plug
built transmission automatic
source auto twins
bd 64/71/14 over s480 1.32 ar forget the rest of the specs on it.
60lb valve springs
htt 3 piece manifold
pusher intakes intake horn.

im probably missing a few things..

but things i can think of are maybe
a cam by haisley
intercooler
bottom end work
This is where i need suggestions on what else to do with it.

did a lot of exterior work to make it look half decent for a 2nd gen.

Good looking truck.

Sharp truck, I'd say after the benched pump you have enough already for 700. Im no expert though. The only other thing Id look into is maybe some head work, p and p and a valve job. Cam is probably not needed. As far as timing 24 is a good place to start and your driveability will not suffer or atleat mine doesn't. The 12v can take a little more timing so if you're not happy there don't be afraid to raise it a few more degrees until you reach your goal. Just remember try not to do alot of durastic chit at once it will make tuning easier. There is some more knowlegeable guys on here than me that will chime in. Good luck!

thanks guys. waiting for a few more responses but im thinking about just calling cds and have them put timing at 28 or so.

have you had your truck dyno'd your trucks pretty comparable to mine.
I see you have diff fuel lines. Were they worth it? I hear some guys say not needed. Some say to get them??

mattypsd 06-07-2012 10:17 PM

what about a coolant bypass kit to relieve block pressure. I have not done that yet. Is that a must have that I overlooked??

CTD01 06-07-2012 10:26 PM

Coolant bypass is real nice! Not to be a wise Mint lookin rig man!

RDPsmoker 06-07-2012 10:30 PM

Coolant bypass wouldn't be a bad idea.

mattypsd 06-07-2012 11:16 PM

pure diesel has one that says for 12 valve. i see a lot of the bypass kits for the newer trucks. and the freeze plug kits for the newer trucks. are the freeze plugs blowing more common on the newer 5.9s or am i missing them for the 12 valves. I know nothing about the freeze plugs. I just need some help here on what bypass kit to buy and what the deal is with freeze plugs. I just don't want to melt my motor.

I made 850 on #2 only with 24 degrees timing, when you start running big timing your bottom end is going to stink unless you have a loose converter, mine wasn't!

bottom end as in of powerband so to speak will be sacrificed? I dont mind losing a little there. I rather see some better dyno numbers and better track runs. id take 850 on hp. thats a great number. my trucks never been on the dyno and this is my 3rd set up. Im going to make sure i get on it soon. My converter is to tight. I've been kicking around getting a different one but i think im going to hold out until i need a transmision over haul with the latest and greatest parts.
any suggestion on a converter for when the time comes.

Jim what set up do you have on the 850 truck. as far as fueling and air?

thanks.

Id definitely throw a cam at it by far one of the best mods ive done on some of these trucks.. Timing sounds okay for now id see how it acts there and go up if needed its not like it takes but a few minutes to change anyways.. Nice lookin truck by the way!

amongold 06-08-2012 12:53 PM

I would put some clamps on your intake boot. Lol nice looking truck.

Poor mans boost controller.....

Truck looks great!

Tyler Irvin 06-08-2012 04:17 PM

Sweet truck!!

lee01dg 06-08-2012 09:52 PM

Ive not dynod since the pump rebuild and inj. I would say Im still only around 500ish if that, it takes tuning and time to get that type of power reliably and be streetable. Im having a head done and debating on a cam. Then hopefully I can get to a dyno or track and shoot for that number or anything over. As for the fuel lines there something I got in a deal, as far as being needed or worth it spend you beans elsewhere for what you want.

i have clamps on it. the pic was taking when i was putting it together after finishing my own powdercoating. i was to excited to hold off on the pic. i had to do more then just clamps to hold the piping together all the way around the twin set up. had to do bungs and bars to keep the pipes from separting in areas.

i was looking at the hamilton cams. are they a good choice?
there whole thing was that there not just regrinds. or am i buying into the marketing. other one i was looking at was a haisley.
thanks.

Lostnwalmart 06-09-2012 01:36 AM

I like my Hamilton cam.

BearBeatsAll 06-09-2012 03:53 AM

I know of a lot of guys with really good luck with Hamilton cams. That's what I have in my pull truck and will install one in my haul truck in the near future.
