Blew head gasket, time for compounds

Guys, blew my head gasket last week so tearing the truck down for orings. Going to order everything for compounds this month too. I was planning on running an he351cw/s400 because the 351 is already on the truck now. I picked up a cat s300g this week for a deal so im thinking I might should go with a s300/s400 kit so i can easily upgrade later on. As far as compound piping kits, i see basically I have 3 choices: Stainless Diesel, Crazy Carl's, And Evil Fab. I have seen some feedback on both the Stainless and Carl's, but I havent seen much about the Evil fabrication. Can I have some feedback please, from people running any of the tree kits? Thanks guys!

I've used source automotive piping kits before I started building my own. This was a long time ago before the others were around, but no complaints with the fitment.

If the s300g is from a cat it will have a different turbine outlet flange than the one typically found on our pickups. So you may have to get it machines from the marlin type flange to and HX40 type unless the twin parts maker can put the right flange on the hot pipe.

Yes im going to have it machined down and wastegate opened up

How does this build sound?

S300g/s475/92/1.10 or s475/87/1.10
025 dv's
5x14 145*( I already have these but will go to 5x16 sometime)
20* timing
Orings with 425 or 625 studs

Truck already has Hamilton 165 springs/locks/ retainers/ push rods
4k gsk
Might add Hamilton 178/208 cam

This will be my towing setup. Its a farm truck that sees alot of heavy pulling

that sounds awesome

Unless the money is just burning a hole in your pocket, the regular studs will get the job done. The 625s are nice. But not at all required with what you’re doing.

I ended up going with the Haisley L19 studs. The regular 425's required milling the rockers, so by the time you add that in, i ended up about 100 bucks more for the L19's. I used the extra money from not buying the 625's for dome porting of the head!

This sounds all to familiar to me! My happiest day was blowing a HG. One year later engine back and 2x the HP.

I’ve made some pretty sizable numbers with L19 studs from Haisley. That’s a good choice.

What are the actually specs on that CAT S300g? I think the one I once had was 62/71/14.

I have stock head bolts on my Holset compound setup...I was expecting head gasket issues, but none ever came. The compound piping was from Poole. Source has been around a long time, not sure about the others.

I measured it and its a 60/65/14

I ended up going with the Evil Fab kit because they are the only one that builds there kit to use the stock wastegate actuator on the 351cw. I got the turbo tuner from PDD so should be very helpful in tuning them. I might weld a vband elbow on the 300g sometime and put it in place of the 351 to see how it does.

If i wanted to use this as a build thread would this be the right section or do i need to start a new thread in another section? I pretty much have all my parta together and an going to tear my truck down this week to start my build.

I would love to see a review of the Evil Fab kit..Haven't herd a lot of feed back on them but I am considering purchasing one of there side mount kits.

And yea...build thread is fine to be posted here but i would start a new thread if it is going to be fully involved so the title makes since
