Rusted axle tube repair
4 Attachment(s)
Just picked up this Dana 80 for my project drag/hoonigan/street truck first gen.
I'm doing a parallel 4link and the bed will be open on the bottom and All the other perches and shock mounts will be gone and I'll be about 800hp with nitrous. How would you repair the axle tubes? Put patches over the pitted spots? Fill it in with mig and grind it? I'm considering slightly filling in the bad spots and putting a patch over it. |
Paint it and roll on its so thick

Could you find some pipe the same id as that od? Split down the middle, tack in on the tube, tack your mounts on, finish weld the mounts on the bench, and then put it back on the axle?
I think it could be done without looking real jerry rigged, and would make the axle that much stouter |
I agree with the clean it up and run it the tubes is thick

ok cool I was concerned but all is good I guess. probably fill the pits in and put that paint on thick lol.

Why put a Dana 80 in it? I beat the crap out of my 70 in my first gen and didn't hurt it, it went 7.08 @ 99mph in the eighth. A 70 will be a lot lighter.

The guy wanted $300 less for the 80 than the 70. I wanted a gm 14 bolt at first because I already had one then decided on a dana 70, but ended up with a 80 lol. It's what I got so I'm using it. truck will be plenty light, chromoly cage and rear frame, lexan windows, working on the interior today, finally got it gutted to the bare firewall. It'll probably never see a dragstrip anyway so I'm not too concerned about weight. |
