Diesel bov tuning.

New to your diesel bov kit. Installed it some time ago but just got around to plumbing it today. Any tips on tuning it? Have very little time to tune it and wondering if you would share any pointers to save time. At this point I put the regulator half open and figured I would work from there.

Which bov kit did you get? I'm only familiar with the turbo smart

I'd start with the regulator CLOSED. Then open just till it blows off nice but not to where it leaks under low boost. If it leaks alot under low load/boost with the regulator OFF, you need more spring (AKA add the big one included).

Hmmmm need to look for that spring. Don't recall seeing it.

Most don't use it . Either the installed, the large , or both.

Yeah....I had to back the regulator down to keep it from leaking, worked good for a couple trips out, now sometimes it works and sometimes it dont. Havent really looked into yet. I was going to get with JGS but just havent remembered to contact them about it.

Check the bov for water.
I'm seeing a lot more water with my smokey DDP injectors.

Craig_C 10-01-2013 08:26 PM

Will do, havent seen any water come out while draining the trap, Ive drained it and blown it out a couple times already just to keep it clean.

You use both springs or one? Reminds me I need to get some good e clip pliers to remove that clip.

Im still using whatever they sent it installed with! Im thinking maybe I need to install the heavier spring so I can get the regulator in a spot where it will work right. The reg I got is only adjustable from 8psi up to something (I dont remember the high limit) so Im wondering if it doesnt work as well being backed down from the 7psi they say the send it set to.

Mine needs more spring. On the list to do now. It was blowing off too early.

Craig_C 10-01-2013 09:00 PM

Im thinking my boost and dp are too close to each other to get it just right

VMAX 10-01-2013 09:04 PM

Don't know why. It is suppose to work when drive drops.

Craig_C 10-01-2013 09:10 PM

It was working good...now its hit and miss. Maybe my valve is sticking or something goofy. I will probably mess with more Friday

VMAX 10-01-2013 09:12 PM

Probably needs more spring. How are you testing it?

You know I really havent come up with a good idea yet without just going out on some back roads and doing it that way! Its pretty obvious when it doesnt work, the turbo barks like crazy. When it does open you get a nice soft whoosh from under the hood!

jgsturbo 10-01-2013 09:25 PM

Probably water.
I haven't had a problem on my truck till I added these dirty DDP 75s.
My buddy had a BOV at the start (same as the you-tube vid truck) and he never had a problem besides the usual draining. But he had Mach 7s which are really clean.

So basically the dirty/hazy trucks are going to make lots of moisture/water.
Been thinking about trying a 2nd water trap, just a simple mini-industrial on the cold side of the drive pressure line.
