turbo wheels?

Does anyone still make upgrade turbo compressor wheels anymore? Im sure I remember seeing them a few years ago but can't find anything now.

bigastrk 03-16-2010 07:03 PM

I believe it was LIPD that was doing them a while ago but I think now you end up just having to buy a modded turbo. I don't recall anyone who is offereing them anymore. I could be wrong but that is what I recall.

Forgot about them..... I always associate beans with the 7.3 stuff.

BUICKpowerSIX 03-17-2010 05:36 PM

Is there anyone out there still doing it?

bigastrk 03-17-2010 08:42 PM

I saw a post on another forum and give industrial injection a call and see what they say. They would be the only ones I know of that might still do it without sending the turbo in.

They built the turbo in my truck a long time ago. I don't think they build it any more.

why don't you just call a turbo shop and get a wheel from a GT40 i'm almost positive they bolt right up, they are based on the same frame as the GT37. The GT40's have 3 different compressor wheels with exducers of 88, 94 and 102. You will also need the compressor housing to match the wheel. The other thing you might consider is getting a exhaust turbine wheel from an 03 it is larger than 04-07 and it will whistle like an 03

I bought w used 03 turbo cheap and am going to send it out to be rebuilt. I figured if I am going to do that I midas well see if I can't upgreade the compressor wheel too.

Thats what I have the GT4088. The whistle is stupid even with a muffler on it.

a compressor housing and wheel from a gt4088 would be nice with a set 0f 155cc or 190cc injectors and put you over 500hp. They make different A/R on the compressor housings depending on where you want the power to come in.

a non-packed muffler won't do much of anything to the sound of the turbine :)

Will that work with the stock sticks ok? Only reason Im going with the 03 turbo is the utterly loud neighbor pissing turn everyones head scream. :hehe:

There is still some machine work involved. I'm working on this right now.

Has anyone ever machined the exhaust housing of a 04 to accept a 03 wheel?

Power Stroke 04-09-2010 02:19 PM

i havent, but it could be done

halerazor 04-09-2010 10:17 PM

what about an exhaust housing off of a gt40. Pretty much you need to turn your gt37 into a gt40vgt. all you keep from the gt37 is the vgt center section, they both have the same frame just like the gt42 and gt45 do

Power Stroke 04-11-2010 04:55 PM

you cant use the turbine housing because the vanes are built into the stock one. i dont think the housings mount the same either. a gt4088 comp wheel and compressor housing / backing plate will work but good luck finding those parts, garrett only wants to sell them in bulk.

I may have come across those parts for next to nothing. Right now the turbo is built except for having the exhaust housing and tonight I pick up the 03 exhaust housing. Shooting for the weekend to have it on the truck.

Also I’m currently working on making a 04 exhaust housing work with a 03 wheel. It is more involved than I thought. Those pins don't just fall out:bang. I'm contemplating having them edm'ed out or just machining them out. Not sure yet.

Im glad the direction this thread has taken everyone. I have not ever thought about bulding a turbo just buying one from a vendor. The information swapped here is great. I have learned a lot as I hope other have too. Thanks everyone! :Cheer:
