Budget scsb 12valve build

Nice build. Are you planning to move the engine position back?

Had no intentions of it, are you saying for weight distribution for racing?
One day i would like to dedicate this truck for the track but right now i dont have that kind of money so a hot DD is what im searching for

Yes for racing and just for overall improved handling. I moved mine back 17" and that got really involved, had to redo steering and pedals totally. But I would think you could move it back a few inches without much trouble. Any little bit should help a lot. Stock these trucks are nearly 80% of the weight on the front axle.

Update, havent been able to get much down as of late but have the motor on the stand, i didnt take too many pics but heres what i have

Machined head flat, .020 over cummins gasket, and tossed in a set of 425’s

Took the oil pan off and welded in a bung, first time ever welding something this thin with my welder and didnt know where to set it and had nothing to practice on so i covered the hideous weld with some jb weld, hopefully itll look decent when its painted

Need to get a fass or airdog ordered and some caltracs so i can set the bed back on, it takes up a lot of room in the shop

Hopefully i can get this motor painted soon and get it set in,still deciding which clutch to go with from valair, ceramic single or dual disk, not sure yet

Ugh... you JB welded the primary drain and the pan was off the engine??? As for the clutch, Ive had the ceramic puck single disk from Valair and it was great. Obviously you wont be backing any trailers with this truck but that was the only time I hated that clutch. It was all or nothing which can get a little sporty when you are in tight quarters.

Theres a real weld underneath that jb weld, i just used it to hide it and extra insurance against leaking if my weld wasnt good

Ive heard that about the clutch, i dont plan on towing with the truck very much, maybe a car hauler here and there but i would like it to be capable of it

Motor is in, spent too much money on fuel and injector setup so she probably wont see the trans for a while.
Planning on polishing the valve covers currently, anyone on here ever chromed theirs?

IMG_0068.jpg this is when I polished my first gens valve covers. Takes a lot of time and patience!

I used just new valve cover gaskets and copper washers with the bolts to seal where the bolt goes through. Worked good for me! Haha

I think he means some clear coat over the polish or something. They'll start to get aluminum oxidation otherwise. I know mine did! And I agree, they are a ton of work... I thought it was going to take 1-2 hrs. 5-6 hrs later I was done. :Cheer:

Oh ok ??*♂️ I just would always put a little polish on them every once awhile and was fine. But only had them like that for 2 years before I sold the truck. Yeah definitely thought it was gonna be easier lol

Anyone want to buy a good nv4500 from me so i can afford a converter?
Really hung up on what trans this truck is going to get, wanting to do a full manual 48re but a clutch is a whole lot more affordable!

A little over a year later and we worked backwards a little bit but we have seen some more progress finally! Went full time on my own business when covid started so there hasnt been much time or money for the project truck!

Engine got rained in during a really bad storm last year and put a hault on the project, one cylinder was rusted out so i had the engine bored etc, this time had the bottom end balanced, and some main studs along with some fancy marine pistons. Going to do it right this time.

Did some trading for some work and got all of the body work done on the truck so that its perfectly straight, truck will be sent to a friend to paint it meanwhile i will work on the engine.
