Dana 44 front

What's everyone's thoughts on running a Dana 44 front axle out of a 1/2 ton 2nd gen dodge? Shooting for a low 10sec truck. I know guys have gone faster on a Dana 60 but I'm just trying to lighten up the front end. I read a couple threads about lightweight axles but didn't directly talk about running a Dana 44 in the front.

I’m sure Cody, DieselheaD on here, will chime in. I believe his plan is or was to run a 44 up front on his 2nd gen drag truck. He would know more about the ins and outs and what needs to be done to help it live.

Use a 60 and re tube it with lighter tubing and brace it or a 9”

I mean a 44 would work with drag rail front tires... maybe

Can you fit large enough u-joints in the D44 knuckles? The ball joints are tiny too, but maybe that wouldn't be an issue on a drag truck. I know they wouldn't last long on the road with all that weight though.

I've seen a Dana 44 destroy a axle u joint before and wipe out the ball joint and basically lay the wheel on its side. It was on a offroad mud truck so not serious, but something to keep in mind on a fast drag truck.
