Possibly moving to twins, need help understanding them

The way we race is we are pulled up to the timing lights and told we can go with a flag. Then we can leave whenever we want, so don't have to wait on a tree or anything to launch. No nitrous allowed in the classes I run. No power adders, I get away with the turbo and injection because they came with the truck/engine, if I went to twins I'd have to move to the outlaw class really can't compete to win in that class with supercharged trucks, etc...
 
The pits are the biggest variable, I've been in pits where I got 15' and the mud was thick enough I could almost stand on top of it and about 2' deep. Other pits, I've made the 200' in 4 or 5 seconds.

Reason for all the weight changes/reductions is to try and get the front end up on top of the mud and let the big rear tires push it across the top
 
If you have nothing but time then I would 100% stay single. How loose is the converter? Air to Water cooler in the cab I take it?
 
The converter is very loose from Phil at DPC. Yes my water to air intercooler is in the cab along with the ice box. I need to get it sent off soon to Stroud to get a blanket made for it.

I've read your build thread since you started it, and watched some of your vids, and different type tracks.

I always wonder how your truck would do with a manual and clutch. Like an older 3.0 sled pull setup for clutch and pump. Those guys can spool those huge singles at 5k at the line, dragging the clutch, and a hand brake.

What kinda wheelspeed do those sled pull trucks run at? They look like they are screaming. Be extra nice with a quick gear change transfer case, to dial in for the track. I don't know if a single gear, no shift could get the wheel speed youd need. Just those mean sled pull trucks look to have plenty.
 
can't run the quick change transfer cases either. I've seriously thought about switching to a manual, but would have to launch in 4th or 5th gear to get enough wheel speed. I've ran the numbers at one point.

with my th400 3rd gear, low range (1.96:1), 3.55 gears and 38.5" tires at 5000 rpm it would be 82.34 mph
with high range and 6.13's its the same as below

with the 47re 3rd gear, high range 6.13 gears and 38.5" tires at 5000 rpm it would be 92.86 mph with OD being 134.57 mph
 
Pullers have the advantage of 45k+ dragging the ground behind them to help get a load and some heat in the turbocharger.
 
Any chance you can use a trans brake so you can help spool a big turbine wheel? Not sure if all the drivetrain parts would be happy, but most likely help spool up. You should be able then to get around 1400Hp to the ground with a S485 or S488 as a single.
 
I had a transbrake on my th400 and loved it. Don't have one on the 47re and have a hard time holding the truck with the brakes trying to spool it up.
 
Is the AFC still gutted? I see a big difference in how fast or being able to spool a charger period based on my AFC setup. I've found that tighter is better for the most part, mine is currently setup so I can flat foot the truck when staging and the AFC brings in fuel as I need it. When it was too loose my staging time would double or just not stage at all, might be something to think about.
 
No, the afc isn't gutted anymore, that was one of the changes I made to help fix the spool up issue. I believe it's setup not to full fuel till 20psi now
 
Why not get yourself a nice say 76/96/1.15? Or even an 80/96/1.15? I think that's about as large as you'll get to be happy spooling with a 12v without some crazy work, but theres no reason you shouldnt see a fairly significant power increase with something like that.
