3406b with acert twins?

I have not seen this setup just talked to a gentleman who claimed he had a buddy whos buddy runs acert twins on his b model. this led me to do some digging and I found a list of parts from a well known cat guy on another forum. I was just wondering what everyone might think of this and if everyone hates the acerts for certain reasons why someone would try this.

Also from the gentleman that gave the list--

It's the two biggest ACERTS you can get that can be very wastegate modded up to 80psi, but bypasses (eliminates) the second water cooler and a bunch of accy junk. It's a bare bones twin kit that looks just like twins off a 6BT/ ISB Dodge. Purdy cool for the money.
 
If you decide to do this give us a call. We stock reman acert turbochargers for very reasonable. They are our top selling units.
 
not sure if I would ever do this as I don't know if the b model can handle it and have longevity both. Im hoping to find some help here along with the aluminum top pistons will handle it. If I do you will be the first I look up.

From what I have heard an ACERT set of twins does very well on a B model Cat.

However your challenge will be the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head. The B model head is a square port, not a round port like the ACERT head and manifold. The manifold turbo on an ACERT set up has a goofy foot, unique to the ACERT set up. You will have to put a late mode C model (PEEC) head, with round exhaust ports, on your motor to get the round port head and use the ACERT manifold.

It is a great idea, but in my opinion, you'd be further ahead by properly matching an S400 and an S500 setup to your motor. But then again, going down the road in a B model how often do you see that high rpm range to use the atmosphere turbo? Power goals, workability and uniqueness are big factors here.
 
I would look into different turbos. The compressor wheels and turbines in the acert turbos are VERY heavy for what they put out.
 
I know of one B that had twins but not sure the specs. The man who does, doesn't come play with us here anymore.

I like the acert compounds. They are problem free for us and make great power. The majority of what we do is class 8 stuff. We make an adapter for bolting acert high pressures onto T6 manifolds as well the relieve those challenges. Additionally, we can vband the high pressure to utilize a vband instead of the carbon seal.

how much of a gain over a borg 177148 s410g? Ive been reading that this turbo is the one that fits the b model the best. I didn't really plan on throwing a load of money on the b as I plan to throw a 6nz in it one day. I would just like a bump in power

The s410g wouldn't fit on our b model, the drain pipe was hitting the wastegate actuator so we went the s430x turbo and it runs good!

Correct. I have seen people heat up and bend the drain around the wastegate or actually move and reset the gate which would seem like a pain from the few pics I have seen. I have also seen a few, but not sure I would recommend it on the old b, that plug the hole and take the gate off completely. My father actually runs a b with a e-model turbo that someone did that to and just bent the actuator down and out of the way
 
There's not enough fuel from B model pump for even 76 mm compressor, why would you use twins that rob even more power from engine ?
 
How about a wider power range? Not everybody lives in Europe at sea level.

Old thread but again your a douche. 3406B with 80mm Borg on manifold and 4” 82 above it just under 800hp dyno proven with CAT pump and worked daily. Cleans Smoke up to just a slight haze at a WOT under load. Do you actually believe the BS that comes out of your mouth?

Have any idea what RPM range this thing runs between?
 
I am sure in Europe they use an HX50, make twice the power, get twice the fuel economy, and work it twice as hard.
