Modified HX-35

Hey guys, for some reason this thread wont show replies on my phone. Must be something with Tapatalk. So far turbo is doing very well for me. No shaft play at all, or in-out play. I just put it on the dyno yesterday, and was impressed for no more than is done to the truck. Made 518/1058 on Paul Cato from Maverick Diesel's dyno. Im sure it is capable of a little more once i get the timing straightened out on it. This thing spools very well for me also. The absolute max pressure ive seen from it is 51psi during the burnout contest, in overdrive with 115mph wheel speed.
 
No unfortunately I did not. The crowd decided the winner, and a chevy tupper-ware truck blew out a tire and destroyed a bedside, so everyone thought his was better lol. No biggie to me though, I'm more concerned with the dyno and making some more power. Just thought I would participate since its a local event.
 
The wheel material isn't typically as much of an issue as shaft material and tolerances. For the most part the import aftermarket wheels are fine but I'm not in the business to be fine for the most part.

I am sure you will get along OK, though. Usually the problematic ones show their face pretty quick.


I'm beyond ready for you to build me one for my 12 valve, however the $1600 I had to spend on the "nothing wrong with it" 47RE FMVB conversation I just did keeps me from getting a proper lung on the 'ol girl just yet!:soap:
 
What is being used to cut the radius if you don't mind me asking?

CNC Lathe or mill depending on the size of the cover. If it is one off and we don't foresee doing the modification again we can do it on the manual lathe. It is just time consuming and I have to personally do it as I really don't want my guys learning as they go on customer stuff.
 
Iv built a he351 67x76 on a Manuel lathe buy hand, i ended up using a few circle flap wheels and it turned out really nice after I ****ed up the first compressor housing lol it's all ways nice to have spare parts

We have used them in place of a corner rounding end mill on aluminum at home in the garage to get a nice radius on a random part by hand on the bridgeport. Never would you be able to achieve what is needed on turbochargers with one. The contour on the compressor is not a consistent constant radius. Spend some time learning the basics of machining power wagon. Turbochargers are not the thing to learn on.

Anytime! If you are in gods country on US30 where the hoot owls get frisky with the chickens stop on by. We have a robot coffee maker in my office we blow the dust off of once in a while.
 
Bit mounted in a manual lathe.

Can't be much worse than a flap wheel :D

I was wondering if it was a constant radius or not.

I'm just getting into some machining on home projects, no idea what the hell im doing.

Watch abom79 on youtube. He has some great stuff on running lathes by hand and how to properly use machinist tools. Get in the habit of doing it right now. Like anything else, it is difficult to break bad habits.
