Killer B better than Maxspool

Mighty Goat

Slow Progression
So I just installed a Killer B in my 03. I already had a Maxspool 2.5++ in my 04.5. The Maxspool is 174/215 for anyone looking to compare numbers. Good luck getting tight lipped Bill to share numbers. But now, I could care less.

Well the trucks have different injection events and injectors so I don't know if you can accurately compare them in this way. But the SOP meter tells me the Killer B is an overall superior product. My 04.5 has TNT-R, DR. P Race box, stock stix, and a Silver Bullet. I thought it ran pretty good. The Maxspool does improve driveability. It is better than stock. But this Killer B is designed to run. My 03 straight accelerates. My 03 with no tuning, less turbo, less RPM, and weighing least 1,000 more pounds will run circles around my 04.5. With my Garrett I saw no boost until 1,500RPM. Now I'm seeing measurable boost at 1,200RPM. It used to surge anytime I got on it under 2,000RPM. Now I can't make it surge. Cruising at 65 used to yield no boost, now I see 2-3LBS. With 130's the cruising egt's are back down to 650 from 800. Duration number's or not, regrind or not, I'm very impressed with Bill's Killer B. Thanks Bill. :Cheer:

i know the difference the killer b made in my 12 was almost unbelievable.. made me a believer in cams and in bills products.. i went to his dp4 cam for this build and that difference was again that much more between those two cam.. bill has some good parts even if for whatever reason he doesnt give specs.. good to hear you like his cam too.

Yeah, after I called Bill to give him my impressions, he said, "Well blow it up so we can put a big cam in it". And eventually I will. I know it's just a matter of time. For now I'm just enjoying my truck again. NEVER buy a Garrett unless you already have a cam!

I have enjoyed both my DP?? and my killer B from Fletcher. sure I'd love to have specs too, but the product is nice regardless.

its kind of amazing to me and i am guilty of resisting for a long time but as cheap and not hard as cams are to get and instal its amazing that more people dont do them and/or talk smack about them.. bills a pretty darn good guy and ive gone through some zhit but he has always stood behind me and his products.. again times have changed and parts/technology has come a long way but cams are a huge improvment to our motors..

Absolutlely. This is my second cam, first one installed on my own. I just took my time and made sure I did everything right. People are scared of cams. Hell, I talked to a guy today that was scared of doing his own injectors on a Common Rail. I have been and will always be a firm believer in installing a cam BEFORE doing anything else. They just make everything else sooooooo much better.

when the cam gear walked off my DP-what-ever-it-was, Bill stepped to the plate and gave me a free upgrade to the killer B. Everyone involved (Bill, Me and the engine builder) all took some responsiblity in the lack of a very needed gear retainer. can't beat that kind of service!!

And there's a guy on one of these forums with a sig reading, "currently de-Fletcherizing my engine". Or some BS like that. I've given Bill a hard time, trust me, he's one of the best vendors out there hands down. I told him, I need a "cam guy". This ain't my first one and won't be my last one. Some other people wipe lobes like they wipe their butt, and blame it on dirty oil. Customer is wrong.... yadda yadda yadda. I know a regrind is second to only a new Cummins core. The rest of it is just marketing BS. And the other guy is all hype on the phone, spend the money, where's my product? I feel pretty good knowing I can call Bill, get my product, a superior product, and go clean house on the locals, 24-7, 365.

im curious and bill and i both have laughed about this but i would love to hear some ignorant reason why a re treated and rockwell tested regrind is not as good as a new blank? dont you have to grind and re treat a new blank also right? as long as they end up with the same rockwell rating shouldnt they be the same in the end?
just saying i think there is some ignorance about "regrinds"

You and I both. Bill and I have beat it to death on the phone. As well as Greg and I back in '09. Rockwell hardness is Rockwell hardness. Period. Regrind or not.

But it sure does sell a hell of a lot of cams.

I can tell you the man on top of TDTPA right now is running a junky old trashy regrind. Laying waste to a "new" cam at every event in 2.6 and 2.8-3.0. That's enough proof for me. And I can't quote mileage on that cam, but if it hasn't failed in the last 3 seasons of pulling I don't see it failing now.

I'd love to have one them new fangled big number drop in cams. But it's not worth destroying the engine in my daily driver over.

Bills drop in cams are a little too aggressive for my liking...run good, but the intake valves are degreed too tight.

i guess thats why we are supposed to check clearences on cams.. hopefully it just kissed and didnt hurt anything..
you cant say he doesnt push the limit..

Is this your picture or one you've seen on the web? I'm just wondering how many people this has happened to?

This is on chases drag truck...every piston hit the intake valves. I know of another 12v that did the same. Its not that his cams are bad, just shouldn't be labeled "drop in" if the clearance is this close.

Was piston to valve clearance checked as directed?

I can feel the pissing contest coming on already.
One guy will say it's not a true "drop in" in you have to check clearances, another will say you should check clearances on every part no matter what. The piston with valve imprints in it will be disregarded and forgotten about.....
Same sh!t....new cam thread.....ho hum....

One would assume not going by those pictures hence his statement about not being labeled a drop in . I made the same mistake with my first cam purchase from Bill it came with the gear on and ready to drop in dot to dot as I was told . The motor rolled over fine while lashing valves but as soon as it started it was ticking . I rechecked lash and it was all good but still ticked . I was told to drive it so I did then rechecked and they were all fine so I ran it because it was my dd. When I could I then put a stock stick back in and still ticked so I knew something was damaged but couldnt take it apart cause it was my only plow truck . Bill sent me a different one so I ran that until the motor just had enough and a valve broke off . I must say that his cams kicked ass I was nervous about really hammering it because of the tick but spool up was unreal . Bill made everything right when we spoke he stepped up big time on a rebuild kit and this time I have one of Bills big cams to put in that motor when it gets done.
