S400 100mm FI Turbine

Anyone play with the s400 100mm turbine from FI yet? Should be ready to test the new 491/100/1.45 in a couple of months on a compound setup with an sxe 472/87/1.0 on my LBZ. We are excited to see what it does. Coming from a 369/74/.90 & sxe 488/96/1.32 setup, I think it will definately breath easier.

Pics are the 88 next the 91 and the turbine differences.

I've heard that the 96 turbine couldn't drive the 88 and up comp wheels, I'll be watching this.

The forced inductions ETR trim 88/116 that's my primary is a 96/1.32 and it not only spools very well with my baby injectors, it spools better and significantly harder than the 6 blade billet 480 that was on before. Only other difference is the larger wheel and V2 cover.

If 100mm is the inducer it could be a gt50 tw. I've attached your pic beside a pic of a gt50

I wonder if this 88mm inducer comp wheel SX-E will outflow the 91mm comp wheel but you never know if you change both ends compressor and turbine.

The XS4 turbine will drive the 88mm comp wheel SX-E but lacks top end power compared to the S500SX models but for some they will not be able to spool the S500SX that easy so the S488SX-E will be the solution.

Here's food for thought.....

According to smokem back when I originally posted on this ETR 88/96 from forced, he stated he expected this unit to outflow and outperform the sxe 88/96 across the whole map.

The individual I bought this from was running it as a single making well over 60psi as a single on his race truck running low 10s.... if that's not top end flowing for a single then damn, what is?!

As a single it's making 1400hp at the rear for some applications.

I stated I wouldn't be surprised if the FI 88mm wheel made more power in a diesel application, I didn't say it would flow more than the SX-E. Flow is not a direct factor of power if you entirely exclude pressure ratio.

Lol, thanks for clarifying!

In all delta pressure will move gas in general and we call this flow most of the time and some engines are more sensitive to back pressure while others are not in close relation to EGR or no EGR most of the time but about this some can write a book about it.
So still the question remains than will this bigger turbine be a better upgrade using the 88 SX-E comp wheel?????? What I found out is that bigger comp wheels move slower moving the same air mass reducing turbine speed creating backpressure even so is there any data on this? Hole for the speed sensor is there to easy job done reading RPM on these two units making data.

But yes like the idea of using the turbine from FI to fill the gap between S400SX4 96/88 and the S500SX 110/100 turbine.

I remember hearing about the larger turbine before I switched over to the GT55. Took a while to get it out finally looks like. Hopefully it's the cheaper option people have been asking for.

Be curious to see how this turbine would compare to the 97/92mm HX60, wasn’t it sort of the standard out of the S400 96/88 and the GT50?

It's easy these days, you can choise whatever shaft and ask them weld whatever turbine you like to it.
