I remember that thread, I figured I'd chime in and ask. I actually asked my instructor about this today. He's been building circle track engines for 12 years. His recommendation was to take the wider end gap, especially for high boost applications.
Personally, I think the oversize piston will cause it to be negligibly out of round, but the increase in ring tension would cause more friction and wear the walls faster. So the little it may be out of round, will have more pressure.

Cflanery should use an ta reader all around the cylinder walls when he does a freshen up!
You noted the same concerns I have.
I guess it could be argued that the ring distortion is no different than cylinder wall variation.

With custom PTW clearances using stock pistons it's either run really wide gaps, custom rings, or filing some over sized ones down lol. It definitely runs well. I'm looking forward to cutting my filter apart today to check it out and see how everything looks when I do freshen it up.

Looks amazing man, great job!! Jeremy and I just pulled my motor out again this past Saturday and will be starting the put back together process when the machine shop is done with the block. Don't think it's going to look that good but I'm getting excited, truck has been sitting for 4 years.
Glad it's running good for you and hope it stays that way for a long time.

I hope so too. I'm almost half tempted to sell it just so I don't have to go through it all again. It definitely was a very time consuming build. I think it broke the rod June of 2016. Didn't get the block till august or September, and didn't start ordering parts till this past February. Took over 3 months to get the rods, and over 2 months for the charger. In the mean time I cleaned and painted parts along with researching exactly what the hell I was doing. The block and head were pretty much done and waited over a month at the Machine shop waiting for the rods so everything could be balanced. Once I got the block and everything back I got it home and halfway assembled and found my piston to wall clearance was to tight so I had to tear it all back down and take it back (My own fault for not verifying it prior to assembly but live and learn).
The other issue I ran into was with ring gaps, rings being back ordered, and how the hell to file them without chipping them. After trashing an entire set I didn't need anyway I got it figured out. All I can say is take your time and triple check everything. I envisioned how I wanted it to look and am very picky on how I want things to turn out. I don't know how many times I went to Fastenal to buy Bolts just because I wanted everything to be Stainless lol.

Well the first time I had it out was because of some cracked pistons. Had maybe 10-12 hooks on it after that, then I wanted to make some big changes and it just ended up sitting because of life getting in the way. This time it's just going back on the street. I'll take it to some local pulls and probably hit the sand drags but that will probably be it. Ppump 24v with a cr head

Hell yeah that sounds awesome. Idk what exactly I'm doing with mine. I have been driving it back and fourth to work every day and have almost 900miles on it already. I want to see what it does on the drag strip but can't see having the time or money to travel all over to drag race It. I'm leaning more towards sand drags and local pulls since I only live 15min from the silver lake sand dunes, and the Sand dragway.
