EXACTLY what I'm thinking about trying with a muffler that I should be seeing soon from a certain person on here for "testing purposes". .....so basically this means I'm a cheap ass and can't afford one so I can have an old one for some "testing". I want the best of both worlds as you can imagine. I thought about "Ying" the exhaust to a pass through parralleled with the muffler and then "Ying" it back together. Under normal circumstances, the exhuast will pass through both. Then when I tow, close the pass through with a butterfly or something I can build for cheapo in the shop. I wonder what it will sound like? 5" is such a bish to work with.

I searched for "cutout" and this thread is what I got. I'm resurecting it!
