Fuel Plate Placement?

I was wanting to know what the best set up for the truck was. When I am at full boost it is around 37-39 psi. and I run about 1300 egt's. I don't have much experence with these trucks or tuning them. I know that mashing it to the floor is no way to get good mpg but whats the fine line between good smoke and bad smoke. I am trying to find a happy medium, I want to tune it for power and mpg or is it just as simple as keeping my foot out of it? I don't have much play in my pedal if I barely hit it to hard I throw smoke

give us a list of what your running so we can have a better idea what to suggest to you.

sounds like your afc spring is a little loose turn the star wheel and tighten up the spring to keep the fuel off at 0 boost. that way you can get rolling a little bit before it gives it a lot of fuel.

try moving the plate back a little or turning the afc to tighten the spring like i said. then try controlling it a little bit with your foot. the blacker the smoke the more fuel you are wasting. yeah it looks cool and all but puts a bad name on the diesel community. try playing with the plate and afc spring then test with your right foot and find a happy medium. also make sure the gov arm is even touching the plate that way the plate will do what it was designed to do.
 
Take the afc off then hold the lever up for the fuel shut down solenoid. Push the throttle down you will see a lever move forward thats the governor arm. Just make sure it contacts the plate.
 
That's a good picture thanks for all the info. I read the posting just up from the picture and the talked about adjusting it when it was running is there a way to do it when it's off and where do you want it to ride on the plate?
