Trouble choosing turbo

Having a hard time deciding on a turbo for my current project. Thinking about going with an s472 but am open to anything really. Truck will be a p pumped 24v with some worked over 6x.018 by seth haley. Pump will either be a maxed 12 mil or the mild 13 mil pump from seth farrell. I have a built tranny with all billet shafts and a 2400 stall converter from phil at dpc. I mainly use the truck for racing but also occasionally drive it around town. I have all supporting mods to safely make power just trying to get more info on what turbo would work well for my goals. Thanks in advance for any help

Lots of guys happy with the 467, 472sxe, one of the myriad of "billet" custom S475's on the market, even the s480's. If you're coming from the 369sxe, the 467 will run quite similar so if you're looking for big power changes, skip that one.

A 13mm will greatly increase your higher rpm power potential, so I'd decide on your pump plan first, then decide which turbo/turbine wheel setup you need to run for both longevity, and power goal.

I would start by setting a goal first. Will make picking a charger much easier. I was not a fan of the cast 75/87 I ran.

I want to run mid 10's in the quarter and with spray be able to hit 1000 hp on a dyno

There is a true 72mm 7-blade cast wheel option available that is the predecessor to the 10-blade SX-E, this would be in conjunction with the 74/83mm turbine and standard 0.63AR compressor cover. We have dynoed several of these aftermarket billet drop-in wheels and seen a good number of them actually make less power than the factory cast compressor wheel.

Will you be spraying it all the time?
No, i guess maybe on the track if it comes to that but id like to keep the spray for dyno only. Really only reason its in question is i got a great deal on the kit and its been sitting in my closet waiting to go on for 2 years now. And thats good info thanks weston.

Also are there any garrett or holset chargers that would work well. I kind od know about borgs units but am clueless on the other 2 brands. Price isnt a huge deal but i also dont want to spend a ridiculous amount of money

I've got similar goals for my truck although with a tighter converter and different injectors. Weston talked me into the 72mm charger he mentioned above, I'll have to update you when it goes on in a couple weeks.

A gt4202 is closeish but with a larger compressor. I was going to tag Zach in here but he found you. So did Weston. If not going to spray all the time I would stick with the 83/74 turbine. Use the housing to control drive pressure/shaft speed if needed.

I'm running a 472sxe with haleys 6hole injectors and a Ferrell 215 pump. Runs consistent 10.90's on fuel made 930hp on Holden bros mobile dyno. A 72sxe will make 1200hp with spray....then exit stage left

After running one for a time I wouldn’t recommend a GT4202/1.01 on a mechanical truck, it did come up on boost surprisingly well but it was a surge monster if you caught it at the wrong time and on the OD shift. Now a GT4294 might be a good option, Weston would probably be able to advise on that.

Are you the one that won the nhrda 10.90 index with the extended cab short bed? When the charger blew how far past its limits was it pushed?

Please do, interested to see how it does. How tight of a converter are you going to run

How is spool on that charger compared to the sxe? While i like the better flow i do like the spool of the 10 blade design

Will do, and my converter stalls at 1900 right now. I had no trouble staging the GT4202 so I’m thinking the S472 is gonna come right up too.

Im running the sxe69 currently with the dpc low stall which instead of 1900 is about 1500. It is an absolute $hit show trying to spool, specially when its july an august and air density is bad

If you already have a stout trans I'd leave the converter until you decide on the charger, you won't be able to spool it from a dig but you can get an idea of when it comes up by lugging it with the converter locked and make your decision from there. Most of the options mentioned in here would probably be fine with a 2000 rpm stall.

Converter is already bought. My thoughts and recommendations from several big name tranny shops were if its a little high i can use my lockup switch to lock converter in first to help with 60 foot times. As long as it doesnt take 30 seconds to spool under ideal conditions though im not going to complain

I don't remember if we discussed this or not but I had no issues on the line with the E.D. 72/83. Smaller pump and injector with a tight patc triple.
