anyone run a quick rate 12mm

considering the benefits of swapping cams in my 160 pump. street truck. mid 600's. looking for efficiency not max fuel. I don't need a 13mm with 850cc of fuel. 450-550 is plenty. the truck struggles with RPMS above 3300 in OD climbs but slow. 55psi fuel pressure when the second pump kicks in. 40 off boost.

so is there anybody out there running a 160 or 175 with a quick rate cam? pros cons? being able to lower the timing would be sweet as the truck pulls occasionally. any input is appreciated.

I'm not sure on the cost difference, but a 13mm pump has a lot of benefits over fuel volume. It'll move 17% more volume on the same cam profile as a 12mm pump, which means your injection event (timing) will be much more precise and you'll get more fuel into the blow (which adds more efficiency). You'll be pulling less timing because the fixed timing will be more accurate.

Say a 12mm pump at 3,000 RPMs takes 8deg of rotation to inject, where as a 13mm pump might only take 6.8deg, you can more fine tune your system.

Basically, you can keep very stock fueling with picking up power and responsiveness.
 
Remember this is for drivability and efficiency. I agree there is probably more total benifit with a 13mm pump. However this isnt a race truck. Its a darn nice daily if i had to. Would a cam make throttle response more crisp? Lower smoke because fuel is being injected more efficiently? I get a bigger pump can work less to make more.
 
From a very well known member on here. The 13mm gains are significantly more than just a cam swap in the pump. You would be money ahead to move to a 180 or 215 if you wanted to stay with a 12mm pump.
 
Wont a 13mm pump held back to say 17mm of rack travel putting out 500cc"s be more of a pain to drive vrs a 12mm with 500cc"s of fuel with 21mm of rack? The smaller pump would have more fine driving habits?
 
Im refering to theottle pedal input vrs pump rack travel/volume. Would i be wrong to think a 13mm would be noticably more touchy?
 
Cool. Thats what im looking for. Either way its a ton of money and i have zero personal experience with either set-up. But total hp is not the goal. Good clean usable hp is. Just wanna do it right the first time.
 
I went from a maxed out 12mm 215 pump to a 13mm pump. With the 13mm pump set at 500cc's the truck ran way cleaner, spooled quicker and ran a lot stronger than the 12mm. This was s366 over s480 and at the time I still drove it on the street some. I can't describe enough how clean and crisp it ran at part throttle, leaving a stop light compared to what is was.
 
Would the stock cam in a 160 be worth a hoot with the 13's or be on the struggle bus still because of the short fill rate?
 
I'd start with a 180/215 pump, have Seth Ferrell put 13's in it, then swap and sell your good 160 pump.

Or just get one of his stage 5 pumps.

I'm running a 160 pump with Hamilton V2.75 cam on our half ton shop truck and I love it. You can drive it like a stock truck totally clean if you want. Made 585rwhp on 340cc with small compounds.

Below 400cc the 160 b&p with V2.75 (setup correctly) has a shorter duration than a 903 bosch cam and 13mm b&p.

From a cost standpoint most guys will go with a mild 13mm because the cost isn't much more than a cam and all the other goodies installed in a 12mm pump.
 
The setup I liked the most on my 160 was 5k springs (Garmon's "hold my beer" gsk) and 024 dv's and a lift pump with 5x18's. Made mid 500's almost no smoke, and very responsive. Went to full cuts and more timing and picked up 50hp but it was a smokey mess.
 
Subscribed. I've been wanting to trade my 180 for a 13mm, but I still drive my truck out of town for vacation and not sure how smoky it would be cruising down the highway
 
Subscribed. I have a 160 pump that local bosch place said needs P&B. I was wandering about putting a 180 cam in it. looking to build 700+\- street truck
