Venting thru afc housing to catch can. Damned near pushing quart out each pass.

Vented thru two rocker covers also has evac into exhaust.

This pump pushing oil out is getting aggravating.

The two rocker box vents push no oil.

Thoughts and suggestions.

More info.

Evap to exhaust through #1 and #6 rocker boxes.

Evap to can through #2 and #4 rocker boxes plus afc housing.

#2&4 push little to no oil.

Afc vent pushes the oil. Wtf.

Why vent the afc? You could be contaminating the pump with more combustion gases because of the vent.

Afc vents into catch can. Went with vent out of top of afc after blowing out to rear pump gov housing gaskets due to blowout of these gaskets.

Good reason. Vent the front cover or tappet cover? Do you have a restriction in the oil feed?

There a restricted fitting for the oil feed and im using the outward port.
The common rail block doesn't have the tappet cover
I cant fit a vent in the front cover without cutting my fan mount.

I blew the gov. housing gasket out twice near the top behind the afc housing and it put oil everywhere. After the second time this happened realizing the oil level in the pump should never get that high I figured I would work with it instead of fighting it, That was the reason for the line straight off the afc to a can. I got the idea from a pic (I believe a schied truck) that did the same thing back in the day. The return from the front of the pump is clear. The motor has a total of 5 5/8 vent lines to let it breath, The pump floods and overflows and the rocker box covers seep after a run. Im pretty sure its the positive crankcase pressure not allowing the pump to drain, Then the oil pressure allows the pump to fill and push the oil out through the afc cap. 3/4 quart over 12 seconds...

I will check the afc also for leaks, How much of a pain is the self contained pump conversion and with a good synthetic oil how many passes would be safe for a 9 second truck? usually only get 4-5 passes each time at the track....
Also what is the oil level in the ppump while its running how high or below the feed line or front drain?

Thanks for any info....

Have you tried unhooking the exhaust vent lines to see if you are pushing back into the engine with the exhaust? Just a stupid Idea.

If everything else checks out, I would just go to a dedicated pump oil setup. Seems to be an issue you are just going to have to fight with as much as you have tried fixing it.

Where do you find these dedicated pump oil setups?

I haven't unhooked the evac line but I do have a check valve in there that was working when installed. setup only has like 7 passes on it.

Chris have you run a contained setup? how often and how hard is it to change the oil? was thinking a little ped cock drain and fill through the afc to whatever volume oil the pump needs. question is can I backyard rig this up...

I have not run them on trucks, but we run them on some old tractors, lol.

The pullers have run them for years. On the tractors we change the oil with the engines nowadays, every 100-150 hours.

Check with some of the pulling shops, haisley, schied...maybe Seth has an option for you since he built the pump?

If the exhaust evac has check valves make sure they are still good and sealing up. I had them at one time and they would good bad every so often and would push oil out everywhere. Worked great when the check valves were new.

Also what size restriction is in the oil pump feed line?

I don't remember the exact size from memory, I found a picture I took with a pin gauge in the fitting and the veneer caliper laying on the table said .025. I got the fitting from crazy carl. I will check the check valve again. im thinking contained oiling is going to be the best route. I have 0 oil out the two valve cover vents only out the pump. once the pump oil return hole is covered with oil I have a hard time believing the case pressure is raising pump oil level..... more the pressure feed line and the oil cant drain fast enough or at all while making a pass. I have 2 separate catch cans so I could tell exactly where the oil was coming from. everything is working as it should just need to dump catch can every pass and add almost 2 quarts every other pass

I'm wondering if there might be something blocking the internal pump drain. I've got some serious blowby on my truck and I've never had a problem pushing oil out of anywhere but my valve cover vents, for the longest time I wasn't running a restricted pump feed either. It sounds to me like there's another factor.
