You'd still have to remove the front cover to get the crank out. Not sure how much easier that is than removing the head, given that I need to do head studs anyway.
Dude you really make no sense! Why go through the trouble of pulling the timing case,girdle,mains and then the crank when you could just pull the head put a new MLS gasket in and do
The headstuds unless your doing a complete rebuild and want the crank checked leave the damn thing in there!
 
What are your thoughts on re-using the rings?

I have ~50K (estimated) on my engine and want to swap rods.

I see this thread is a little old but why would the original OP want to f*ck with a motor that only has 4K miles on it. :nail:
