My timing cover to block leaks and oil pan leaks I've tried just the gasket and it leaks I've tried the gasket and high flex and that was worse as I thought it would be. I've also tried the gasket and rtv and want a fan but that seem to almost work. So what's everyone using to keep these things from leaking. Yes everything Is flat and clean when i put it together. Thanks in advance

Permatex Aviation Sealant is some nasty stuff but works really well on gaskets and seals.

High tack works great on paper gaskets. It’s a pain if you ever need to replace the gasket again, but never had a leak using it.

Why the hell you need sealant, when you have a gasket?

Prepare the surface, use gasket and case closed

:stab:

Right stuff is heavy duty stuff. We use it to during emergency repairs at the track or something that needs to 100% not leak. It will really glue something on so be prepared for that when you remove it.

Agree 100% a gasket is the sealant. Trying to make 2 thing donthe same job at the same time is asking for a leak. Rtv is the devil. High tack is wonderful stuff. It works best when gluing 2 case halfs together like on a VW. Or if you have a pita thin paper gasket that wont stay in place while you assemble. I cuss rtv everytime i see it. 99 to 1 it was used by a guy that didnt know how to fix the problem rght the first time.

Lmfao, they all have there place. Rtv with a gasket is needed when the sealing surfaces have been damaged with no way to repair quickly or easily, rust pitted, warped, dished surfaces.

If surfaces are clean and square, just a gasket or gasket and spray adhesive usually will suffice.

GM gray, the Right Stuff & loctite anerobic sealent flexible and hard are some of the best I have ever used.

Problem with rtv is people use way to much...

I'm not a big fan of rtv on a gasket. I've tried just the gasket and it leaks. I've tried high flex and the gasket and that was worse. I've never used high tack and have heard this is the best stuff to use with a gasket. And that rtv should only be used by its self. I agree they all have there place. I work at deere dealership and we used everything from thread locker to hylomar to seal different components. But I'm trying to see what everyone is having the best luck with on these timing covers to the block and the oil pan
